IM (1982) Victor Jaime Frias Pablaza was the coach of GMs Patrick Wolff and Ilya Gurevich. He was three-time Chilean Chess Championship medalist (1975, 1976, 1977).

Frias was known as a chess trainer. He coached Mexico National Chess Team from 1996 to 1997 and the USA Junior Chess Team from 1988 to 2003.

My friend IM Victor Frias just passed away about one hour ago. Victor was the coach of GMs Patrick Wolff and Ilya Gurevich.

On Monday, we will be sending condolences to his family and flowers to his service. We will all miss him very much.. Victor was like a brother to me, he was also born in Chile and we have been friends since 1979.
