chessgames.com: Chess Champ: we received it, but there was a problem with the PGN.

<[Event "New York Open"] [Site "New York, Yuchtman's Last Best Games"] [Date "1980"] [ECO "E20"]
[White "GM Lev Alburt"]
[Black "GM Jacob Yuchtman"]
[Result "0-1"]

1. d2-d4 g8-f6
2. c2-c4 c7-c5
3. g1-f3 c5xd4
etc.>

The problem is that we cannot process games in the old "g1-f3" format--it must be in modern Algebraic, such as "Nf3". If you can fix that problem and resubmit, we would be happy to have the game.

Dec-07-03  van haaften: I am interested in the life of Jacob Yuchtman. In december 1998 Chess Life had an article on him by Shamkovich and Khodarkovsky containing a promise for more (even a book). Has this promise been fulfilled, does there indeed exist a book today on Yuchtman? Can anybody tell me more about his life?
Dec-07-03  van haaften: see also Yakov Yukhtman
Dec-07-03  mymt: yes any more info would be great

jaime gallegos: Jakob Yuchtman was born in Voronezh 400 km southward of Moscow in central Russia in 1935, their parents were jewish and the father died on WWII fighting against the germans. Then his family moved to Uzbekishtan and being a yound he developed a great career as a chessplayer. He died in 1985 and was not promoted for the soviet goverment because of his ideas ( he was not comunist ). I found this resume in a brasilian chess page: http://www.clubedexadrez.com.br/men... Dec-30-09  ChessMasta2000: big mistake, bio says he died in ukraine, that's not true, he died in new york! 1/14/1935-1/28/1985!
Dec-30-09  ChessMasta2000: Yuchtman PLAYED WELL UNTIL 1980! HE COULD HAVE BEEN IN THE TOP 10 EASY!
Dec-30-09  Raisin Death Ray: <ChessMasta2000> YOU DON'T HAVE TO YELL!
Dec-30-09  ChessMasta2000: The above idiot is contradicting himself!
Dec-31-09  Raisin Death Ray: <ChessMasta2000> NO, I'M NOT!!!
Jan-02-10  ChessMasta2000: Raisin proves my point, duh
Chessgames, you need to correct death date as explained!!
Jan-03-10  ChessMasta2000: There's only german bio out there on this man an its's wrong, either way, until somebody shows me social security death index, GM Jacob Yuchtman died on January 28 1985!
Jan-03-10  ChessMasta2000: Certainly AVOID GERMAN WIKI BIO, TONS OF MISTAKES!
Jan-03-10  ChessMasta2000: Jacob was persecuted because he was jew, today he'd be top GM, good to know he made it to 50!
Jan-10-10  ChessMasta2000: The death date brings to question the following problems? Bio here & onn chessmetrics, date was taken from pathetic wikipedia, and german version nis worse ever: follow all links: http://wikipedia-watch.org all info is 100%true! : Social security death result does not display exact death date, it's most possible he died on January 25 1985! Social security is wrong many times, idiots gave george burns death as march 8, instead of 3/9!!!
Jan-10-10  ChessMasta2000: Interesting story on bob hope, his wife & burns. His wife, now made it to 101, she said hope will beat burns, so he did by 11 days, but burns was special, to the end he performed, bob barely moved, if burns didnt fall in that damn bathtub he'd living atleast until105! His mind remainedsharp!
Jan-11-10  Raisin Death Ray: <ChessMasta2000> Maybe you should do a few MORE posts on this site. You don't have NEARLY enough! :)
Feb-03-10  ChessMasta2000: what, in usa death certificate procedure totally sux, they ll put day body was found, acccording to new york social security, jacob yuchtman was dead late january 25 1985, good to know he made it to 5o! Today is when music was born, not died, the seed of 3stars brought good harvest thanx2 holly, valens, richardson. The roots r deep 2stay4goodd! Weird, Eddie Cochran recorded song 3 stars up above, how God wanted the 3 stars, and on 4 17 1960 he died, wow 50 years, rip! God can wait, after all earth was not made inn 6000 years nor universe, one day for him is billion years, but dont say when one dies God wanted him, there's no proof, its subjective. Amazing how valens lost coin toss, he was youngest, la bamba in stereo exists, i made my own mix from 2 versions, also deleted mistakee in the middle of the song when some jerk did not sing in key! Valens did not want to record that song. But certainly Donna would never beat it! At the time dating (especially in the south) somebody else out of your race was unacceptable, senator stron thurman was total hypocrite when he changed his stance, y?HE HAD TO, ALL OTHERS DID IT!
Apr-17-10  Robotics: According to police documents he died on the 25th but idiots always mess up days, above user is correct, after full investigation, correct day is january 25 close to midnight! Chessgames never cares of course!
Apr-17-10  wordfunph: 1959 Tbilisi Soviet Championship: Jacob Yuchtman (1935-1985) had a winning position in an adjourned game against World Champion Boris Spassky. However, an "Appeals Committee" ruled the game a draw without resumption of play, because of repetition of position which actually did not occur.
Apr-18-10  Caissanist: I have updated Yukhtman's biography from saying "At the beginning of the 60s he first moved to Israel and later to the USA" to "At the beginning of the 1970s ...", since he obviously was in the USSR through at least 1971.
May-03-10  Caissanist: Does anyone know of a definitive source for Yuchtman's date of death? It seems to be given as January 25, 26, and 28 in different sources.
