Jan-08-10 V Malakhov vs R Mamedov, 2010
|
returnoftheking: Malakhov's win looks very easy/effortless again, a pleasure to watch. |

returnoftheking: I agree, he's an interesting player and won't do worse than Shulman;) Tim, thanks for the diagrams!! Seems like the battle is already won. |

Jan-08-10 Magnus Carlsen

returnoftheking: On the other hand, suspicious minds could think it a case of envy, or someone refusing to prove himself wrong. After all, it's hard to have to add points to Naka's already good rating when you just said that he is absolutely unsuccesfull at the elite level.

Jan-07-10 Sasikiran vs V Gashimov, 2010
|
returnoftheking: He is up a pawn in the opening, but I am not sure he had real winning chances.
Still it's quite amazing that Gashimov lost the position after 26.h4; it looks incredibly easy to draw it at least by putting some pawns on the white squares. |

Jan-07-10 V Malakhov vs Shulman, 2010
|
returnoftheking: 19.f5 ..exf5(?) 20. Rxb6 Qxb6 21. Nxd5 with double attack. Even before 18..Nc6-a5 f5 doesn't look bad.
19..g6 is a strange move, inviting f6 after which Ng5 will be even more annoying for black and it all seems effectively over in 20 moves. Efficient play from Malakhov but ... |

returnoftheking: <Almost no one makes real money in chess.> The "regular GM's maybe. But you can bet that players like Kramnik, Anand, Carlsen, Topalov, Aronian have plenty of money and wealth.
But they have good managers, receive (state)support and are a class above ordinary GM's. ... |

Jan-07-10 Fischer vs Geller, 1967
|
returnoftheking: Some minor corrections;
A) not the entire Soviet block, I believe only Geller, Petrosian and Keres.
Thus not Tal and Korchnoi himself.
B) He didn't (just) speak about lack of freedom; he made nasty/insulting remarks about Karpov and other GM's after losing his match. ... |

Jan-07-10 Nakamura vs Sasikiran, 2010
|
returnoftheking: -0,73; not as bad as it looked apparently. Still I find it hard to find a plan or counterplay for white. |
