Fiorentino Palmiotto was born in Ravenna. He obtained the title of Italian Master at La Spezia in 1958, during his honeymoon. Twice a member of the Italian Olympiad team (1958 and 1960), Palmiotto won the 16th Italian Correspondence Championship in 1964 and the Italian Senior Championship (over 60) in 1993, 1994, and 1995. He was named an International Arbiter by FIDE in 1991.

Played for Italy in two Men's Chess Olympiads, 1958 and 1960. In 1958, he (board 4) played a +2-6=4. Individually he got 28th, and his team did too. In 1960, he (board 3) played a +6-4=6. Individual result was 14th, team result was 32.
