Mar-06-06  biglo: I presume this is IM Miroslav Shvarts who received a fake final GM norm and so got a Two and a half years suspension from tournament play beginning March 1, 2006.
Mar-09-06  EmperorAtahualpa: "DECISION OF ETHICS COMMISSION ON COMPLAINT AGAINST IM MIROSLAV SHVARTS

The Ethics Commission received a complaint from the German Chess Federation against IM Miroslav Shvarts concerning a GM norm he said he received in the Kali Cup GM tournament held in Mindzentkalla Hungary in February 2004.

According to the Hungarian Chess Federation investigation, the Kali cup never took place. Therefore the Ethics Commission has decided to apply sanctions against all the participants in the tournament not just Mr. Shvarts."

Mar-09-06  EmperorAtahualpa: Actually, how did this guy even get his IM norm? I can't find any of his games in any other database, only this game in the chessgames.com database!
Aug-27-06  Caissanist: That'll teach him--if you want to buy a title, make sure that the chess federation gets a cut too. Apparently Shvarts couldn't be bothered to travel to Ukraine.
Aug-27-06  Karpova: The Kali Cup GM tournament took place - Alexandru Crisan won it followed by I Indrak and Zurab Azmaiparashvili (who gained the most Elo points).
Aug-28-06  Caissanist: Followed closely by N Shalnev, no doubt.
