Jul-09-06 | | Landman: The two games in the database so far that show a remarkable range of playing skill. After a puzzling opening pawn drop vs. Bartholomew (rd 5), tenacious defense doesn't just save a draw, but ends up with a full point. Then vs. Najer in rd 8, an amateurish way of handling a Closed Sicilian (Bc4 then Bf4) gives Black an easy advantage. After some plan-free dark square moves, 16.Kh1? drops a piece, and then 30.e5?? fatally opens the light long diagonal. I bet Bartholomew wishes he'd gotten to play Varshavsky, instead of having to play Varshavsky. |

Jul-09-06 | | whiskeyrebel: better yet, he would've preferred to play Varshavsky without his controversial hat that replaced last years hearing aid. |

Jul-09-06 | | sneaky pete: The man who gave a new meaning to the word hattrick. |

Wow, what a fool. To think he'd get away with it was rather arrogant. |

Aug-11-06 | | Manic: Actually i think that was Steve Rosenberg's (the other cheater) best friend. How come they did not actually expel Varshavsky? |

Aug-14-06 | | Karpova: Please, <chessgames.com>, there's a mistake in your database.
This win over Rybka (Computer) has been attributed to Shredder (Computer) though every child knows that <Eugen Varshavsky> had the white pieces: Shredder vs Rybka, 2006 |

Oct-01-06 | | Brown: <Rocafella> Is there a difference between trash talking and s**t talking? |

This photo of "Eugene Varshavsky" was taken at the 2009 Philadelphia Inquirer Sudoku National Championship. - apparently the only one where his hoodie is not pulled over his head. https://numberwarrior.files.wordpre... Phil Irwin played "Varshavsky" at the National Open in 2006, which was held two weeks prior to the World Open. To quote Irwin: "During our game he played some very bizarre opening moves and then eventually quickly finished me off with a very sophisticated combination. He arrived late to the game and kept his neck cocked at the same angle for long periods. Later I wondered if he had a camera in his stocking cap, which he wore along with a heavy sweater in Las Vegas in June.” |

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wy_...
It is mostly about his Sudoku cheating (since that channel is a Sudoku channel), but his chess career is from 7:40 to 11:00. |
