Feb-16-06 | | alicefujimori: Daniel King's "Winning with the Najdorf" is actually a very good book for people who are beginners to the Najdorf. It demonstrates the ideas and themes behind the Najdorf very well. |

 | | Peligroso Patzer: I can highly recommend Mr. King's recent (2004) book "Test Your Chess with Daniel King", published by Batsford. Although I am generally not a fan of books in the format "rate your chess by seeing how many moves from grandmaster games you can correctly predict", I picked this one up (notwithstanding its boring cover) and after several minutes of browsing, I found it to be so exceptionally well-written, both in terms of chess analysis and background narrative, that I decided to purchase it. My more thorough subsequent perusal of the book has left me very pleased with that decision. In addition to its excellent instructional value, I found many parts of the book highly entertaining, for example, the introductory section to Chapter 16. |

Sep-08-06 | | HolyKnight: I like King as a chess teacher. I have his two DVDs on the French, and though they are a little old by now. They are still very instructive. He also plays the openings he writes about! Like English Defense, French and Najdorf. I hate GMs that will write a book or make a DVD and not play the opening over the board. |

What is your conclusion? Grandmaster Rogozenko: "I would say that with good play from both sides, the Alapin Sicilian often leads to an "equality slightly better for White." chessbase: How is your personal score against the Alapin? Grandmaster Rogozenko: "I have never played Alapin myself with White...[but with] Black I faced Alapin many times and my overall score is positive..." click for larger viewsource:

Sep-09-06 | | HolyKnight: <apawnandafool> 1.e4 gives you best tactical games for the most part. Now I hardly know the Alapin. When I look at 1.e4 as white, you are going to get Sicilians coming out your ear. Petrof defense is supper tough to beat I understand. I play the French my self. I love to see 1.e4 players. I love to play my French against it! If you play 1.e4 you got to study openings. It might give you some real nice tactical games. But be prepared, because you know black will be! |

Feb-05-11 | | KingG: Does anyone know how many languages this guy speaks? I've seen him present a chessbase video in German, and his French accent seems pretty good when he reads out French names and places, so it's very possible he speaks that as well. |
