Feb-14-06  Bobak Zahmat: We can analyse what Black's options are after 10.Qe7

PS: For those who want to follow the game
1.e4 Nf6
2.e5 Nd5
3.d4 d6
4.Nf3 dxe5
5.Nxe5 |Nd7|
6.|Nxf7!?| Kxf7
7.Qh5+ Ke6
8.c4 5Nf6
9.d5+ Kd6
10.Qe7 ...

(The moves surrounded by |..| are the key moves which are discussed.

Feb-14-06  euripides: Tal thought for about 50 minutes about Nxf7 that game. After the game, according to Evans, Tal told Larsen that a few moves later, having played something else, he thought of a good line after the sacrifice and was then unable to concentrate properly on the game. So I don't think his decision is strong evidence one way or the other.
Feb-14-06  Bobak Zahmat: Black can choose from a variety of moves.
Possible moves are:

10. ... Nb8 (probably the best option)
10. ... Nb6

other moves like Ne5 and c6 give White a bigger advantage,

ofcourse the moves Qe8,e6 and e5 are losing by force!

Feb-14-06  Bobak Zahmat: <euriphides> Perhaps there are GM who have analysed the line after the sac. But it would be great to find out togehter if White is able to win this or that Black has a good defense against it.
Feb-14-06  pezzonovante: Bobak Zahmat: <pezzonovante: When Larsen played 5...Nd7, it was a novelty, it's quite possible Tal feared some kind of homecooking.> Do you mean the move Nd7 wasn't played before in a game between top GM's?

--- I guess so.

Feb-14-06  Bobak Zahmat: <pezzonovante> If you once have the correct Defense for Black (if White is gonna make the sac), you should certaintly play Nd7.
Feb-14-06  pezzonovante: I think Larsen's 5...Nd7 was a poker-chess move---
Feb-14-06  Bobak Zahmat: <ALL> What is according to you the best option for Black after 10.Qe7 ...?
Feb-14-06  pezzonovante: Really I don't know the line, I play Alekhine's Defense but 4...g6 or even 4...Nb6. Anyway I think I'll take a glance on 5...Nd7 line, just for the sake of curiosity
Feb-14-06  Bobak Zahmat: <pezzonovante> Thanks!
Feb-14-06  Bobak Zahmat: Alekhine Defense is one of my favourite openings with Black. Therefore I would love play Nd7 if I am sure White hasn't a chance to win :) after Nxf7!?
Feb-14-06  AgentRgent: <Bobak Zahmat: <ALL> What is according to you the best option for Black after 10.Qe7 ...?> 10...Ne5 11. Bf4 c5
Feb-14-06  Bobak Zahmat: <AgentRgent><10...Ne5 11. Bf4 c5> I do not think that is the correct variation to continue for Black. Because after c5 White will play Nc3. This move protects the d pawn and prepares for a long castling or unleashes the Rook to take the d file.
Feb-14-06  AgentRgent: <Bobak Zahmat> In order to take the sting out of white's 6. Nxf7, black must be prepared to defend accurately. However, remember that White has invested a full piece, the burden is on him to prove his attack. after 10...Ne5 11. Bf4 c5 12. Nc3 a6 black can hold until his material advantage proves decisive.
Feb-14-06  Bobak Zahmat: <AgentRgent> If I was the White side, with this position on the board, I would love to play it. 12. ... a6? isn't creating any space for Black. If so, what would you do after long castle? 13. 0-0-0 and almost game over! What are Black's options? Let's analyse.
Feb-14-06  Bobak Zahmat: White has almost completed his developement and Black's pieces are hanging or are still stuck at their place. The Black Bischop acts as a pawn and the Rooks can't go anywhere. Your move will be ...?
Feb-14-06  Bobak Zahmat: Black can not save his Knigh on the e file. After White gets his material back, he still is in the lead, because all his pieces are aiming at the weak King.
Feb-14-06  AgentRgent: <Bobak Zahmat: 12. ... a6? isn't creating any space for Black. > 12. a6 is played to prevent Nb5+
Feb-14-06  AgentRgent: <Bobak Zahmat: After White gets his material back> White will not get his material back. After 13. 0-0-0 white has 2 wins 9 losses and 1 draw according to http://www.chesslive.de/ My move is 13...g6

Feb-14-06  Bobak Zahmat: <AgentRgent>Oops I have missed a great move 13.Bd3!?

Anyhow, my move after 13. ... g6 is Bxe4.

Feb-14-06  refutor: what's your rating bobak? can you guys take this to agentrgent's board or something?
Feb-14-06  Bobak Zahmat: <refutor> My rating? Good question! I guess around .... No actually I do not have rating :) I play time by time some opens but just for pleasure. But maybe we about two years I can tell you my rating.
Feb-14-06  Bobak Zahmat: <refutor><can you guys take this to agentrgent's board or something?> On this page people can discuss the Alekhine opening. And that's what we are doing.
Feb-14-06  refutor: no you're playing a game
Feb-14-06  AgentRgent: <refutor: no you're playing a game> Well that wasn't my intent. Bobak is convinced that black is lost in this position, I'm coinvinced he's wrong. He asked what my response would be to a move in a paticular line, I gave him one. I also pointed him to Chesslive's database that addresses the moves he's suggesting and show convincing scores for black.
