Sally Simpson: It appears Gukesh has switched into postional pressure mode and Ding has not re-acted quickly enough.

FSR: <halito27> "Perfectly fine" is an overstatement. Black's position is unpleasant. Can he hold with best play? Yes. Can he produce best play in the time he has left? Not likely.

FSR: <OCF> Yes. As I said, he wanted to fianchetto the bishop, not the rook.
Dec-11-24  optimal play: <Cassandro: <Optie> With around a minute per move left I still think he can save it.>

If only he had offramp’s 30 second increments!

😀

Dec-11-24  vonKrolock: The active Knight vs passive Bishop can in fact be decisive for the Gukesh side this time ...
Dec-11-24  Cassandro: <Optie> 😂😂

Dec-11-24  Cassandro: 27.d5 played by Gukesh. Isn't that good for Black though, finally freeing his bishop?
Dec-11-24  optimal play: <Cassandro: 27.d5 played by Gukesh. Isn't that good for Black though, finally freeing his bishop?>

Yeah, Ding could save this if he has the time.

Troller: Quite tactical and little time left. Rd6 is a major threat, also Rd8+ in many lines is uncomfortable. Sesse is unimpressed with +0.1 but this looks difficult for Black.
Dec-11-24  siamesedream: 2 Rooks for a Queen?

Not the easiest decision to make given the clock and match situation.

OhioChessFan: SF is calling for Black to trade Queen for 2 Rooks. I don't know why.
Dec-11-24

FSR: SF says 29...Re8 is essentially an only move, after which Black is a little worse, but OK.

perfidious: Even lines where White offers his rooks for the queen look okay for him; Ding's position continues to be uncoordinated and awkward.

perfidious: How does Ding meet 30.Rd6?
Dec-11-24
Premium Chessgames Member
FSR: Yeah, Re1 is a major possibility for White. Black grabs the rooks, then brings his rook back to e8 with an OK game (+0.3).

  FSR: <perfidious> 30.Rd6 Qe7 31.Nd5 Qf7 box is about as good as 30.Re1.

Troller: But he didn't take! Now simply rook exchange and Ne4, White has a dream position.
Dec-11-24  Messiah: Terrible decisions!

FSR: SF says ...Qf7 instead of ...Qxe1 is terrible! White trades rooks, then Ne4 +1 advantage for White.

Yes; that struck me as very good for White. The nervous tension is taking its toll on both players.

FSR: 31.Ne4? much weaker than trading rooks first - 31...Rbe7! box is fine.

OhioChessFan: White should have traded Rooks before Ne4.
