DaltriDiluvi: Up to and including <19...Rxh7>, the players were following this game between to other super GMs:

Mamedyarov vs Dominguez Perez, 2022

Assuming both Keymer and MVL knew about that other game, you could say that they skipped the middle game and went straight to this position (move 20, White to move):

I thought that this position would lead to a dull draw, but that was not quite the case: We got a knight endgame where White had an extra pawn and winning chances. The game only became drawish when White allowed a pawn trade with <48.Ne5?>. (I admit that the correct move <48.Nd3!!> is very hard to play. You have to see that White is winning after <48...b4 49.Kf3 b3 50.Ke4 b2 51.Nxb2 Nxb2> even though he is down a knight for two pawns.)
