offramp: Bad Kissingen 1981 was a smallish tournament. It had to be in a way as players from the Soviet Union would still not play against Kortschnoi.

The six players played each other twice.

They were Kortschnoi, Seirawan, Lobron, Hort, Sosonko and the little-known Wolsthenholsteinbeinholzsohn.

Kortschnoi won by a distance: he scored 9/10, +8 =2.

Lobron was last: 2.5/10.

perfidious: Heinz Wirthensohn was hardly 'little-known', having been awarded the IM title four years before the event at Kissingen.

Amidst the rigorous preparation for his candidates matches the preceding year, Korchnoi played successfully in two major events without the presence of Soviet players: Wijk aan Zee and the Phillips and Drew tournament at London.

Much more famous than I realised; this IM has been Swiss Champion three times in the last 34 years.

It seems that he has not invaded my personal consciousness to the same extent that he has obviously invaded <perfidious>'s.
