An Englishman: Good Evening: Dunno about this game's title--Doerr certainly seems like quite a taker here. Black had a cramped position after 9...0-0; he played decent defense, but after 19...b5, White still seems to have an edge. Can't figure out where he went wrong.
Jul-15-22  Atking: Indeed <An Englishman> I suspect 15.g4?! doesn't make sense as Bg6 is better placed here. Simply 15.0-0 or 15.d5 for Nd4. Yet it was a simultanous performance, usually the master wants to "kill" as quicky as possible a lot of boards. This could explain the aggressivity of 15.g4?!

  Honza Cervenka: 38...Qe2+ 39.Kg3 (If 39.Kh1 or 39.Kg1, then 39...Rf1#) 39...Qf2# was a bit faster finish.

15.0-0 and 15.d5 both look better than 15.g4 but, as <An Englishman> says, White still seems to have an edge after 19...b5 so I don't think we can point the finger at that move as the culprit.

I think things went belly-up for White during the sequence <23.Qd4 f6 24.Nf3 Bc5 25.Qc3 fxg5 26.Ne5 Bxf2+>. With the benefit of 20-20 hindsight I reckon I can see three improvements for White in that:

First 23.Qd4 gave Black a tempo to play 24...Bc5 so 23.Qc3 would have been better. Next 24.g6 would have kept the f-file closed. Finally 26.Ne5 simply underestimated how devastating 26...Bf2+ would be so maybe 26.O-O would have been safer (although possibly it was already too late by then).
