Sep-04-21  tonsillolith: A very one-sided game, a miniature, and an advertisement for the advance variation of the Caro-Kann, which I usually avoid in favor of more humble <3. Nc3> or <3. Nd2>.

A story of Carlsen having a large space advantage and dropping a few nice tactical flourishes to finish the game off in style.

<17...0-0> seems very risky. Trading a kingside pawn for White's b-pawn, and really "castling into it".

White's only obstacle on the kingside is having to tip-toe around Black's control of the g5, h4 squares, but <19. Rg4> giving up the Nc3 works just fine, since the pin and ability to sac on g6 saves White enough tempi to bring in ample firepower for a mating attack

<21. Nd5> sounds the death knell. In the knight's first attempt at sacrifice he was malingering close to home, but this time he throws himself upon the sword. What White gains for the knight is a pin on the f7 pawn, which makes the final <24. Bf8> work. <21. Nd5> may actually make a good puzzle one day. I'm not sure, maybe a Wednesday or Thursday?

I wanted to put exclams on many of the moves, but they felt like were just blasé to Carlsen. I enjoyed them nonetheless.

keypusher: Brutal game. Maybe <GIAaron> will stop by with some suggestions.

Incidentally, 20.Rxg6+ (SF) is a big improvement: 20....fxg6 21.Qxg6+ Kh8 22.Qh6+ Kg8 23.Bxc5!.

After 20.Bh6 Kh7! 21.Qh3 Kg8 White's attack would have been slowed a little. After 20....Be8 21.Nd5 everything was back on track.

Sep-07-21  Kurakotsaba: A WRESTLING tussle in the open dirt pit!!!
