fredthebear: 5.Nc3 Bd7 variation. I wouldn't call this a Barry Attack, although the structure is similar.

It's the Poisoned Pawn variation, as the b2-pawn is left undefended. Black BEWARE! If 5..Qxb2?! Black is in some trouble after 6.Nb5 Na6 7.Rb1 Qxa2 8.Ra1 Qb2 9.RxNa6! bxRa6 10.Nc7+.

Brief PP article w/SF analysis: https://www.chess.com/openings/Lond...

Our game is equal after 11...0-0.

Black does not play 13...Nxd4 because of the pin 14.Be3.

14...Kf8?! SF prefers the defensive 14...Be8, which is played 16...Be8.

18...Ke7? The monarch must be named Jack, for he will tumble downhill from here and break his crown. 18...g6 would have allowed the DSB to control the long diagonal, as White no longer has a DSB.

22...Bd7 was better than ...Bh5.

24...Ne4+ busts the game open. Does the move deserve an exclamation! ? Well, it is a sacrifice that leaves the White queen en prise.

27...Nxb4? is about the craziest move I've ever seen Aronian make. Desperate times call for desperate measures, but this only made things worse.

Ol' FTB might have played 31...Rf7 hoping for a cheesy back ranker. I've never been able to force myself to resign when my queen remained on the board w/the existing threat of a back ranker.

After a few more moves, the wayward monarch would've been blackjacked on White's back rank.
