  WannaBe: Lets get it on!!
Nov-16-18  PhilFeeley: Go for the win Magnus!
Nov-16-18  Count Wedgemore: May the Norse Force be with you, Magnus!

  moronovich: Finally a Petrov.HestF3-HestF6.
Nov-16-18  Ulhumbrus: Black can prevent 7 Nd5 by 6...c6 or by 6...Nf6
Nov-16-18  rogge: Cool, only on game left in cg's database :)

Motylev vs A Rakhmanov, 2018

Nov-16-18  iroozdar: C42 Russian Game: 3.Nxe5 d6
Nov-16-18  rogge: *one :)
Nov-16-18  PhilFeeley: Why would Magnus play into Favi's strength? I guess maybe so he can prove something.
Nov-16-18  OBKing: Nd3? I've never seen that one before..

HeMateMe: Is this a silly patent line that leads to a quick draw?
Nov-16-18  Ulhumbrus: 10...c6 keeps the N on a3 out of b5
Nov-16-18  boz: Weirdest position after 10 moves I've seen in a while. Carlsen really wants to mix it up.

Check It Out: < Ulhumbrus: 10...c6 keeps the N on a3 out of b5>

But it allows 11.Nc7+

Nov-16-18  Marmot PFL: No doubt "surprised" by the Petroff defense the world champion selects a safe line with the early queen trade.
Nov-16-18  OBKing: <HeMateMe: Is this a silly patent line that leads to a quick draw?>

Maybe not. Magnus opted NOT to exchange more than queens off the board by bringing his knight back in the hopes of having more tension on the board. He's going for the win! Go Magnus!

Nov-16-18  Atking: Does it lose a pawn? 7.Nd5 Qe5 8.N1c3 f5 9.NxN fxN 10.Nxc7 Kd8 11.Qb5
Nov-16-18  Ulhumbrus: <Premium Chessgames Member Check It Out: < Ulhumbrus: 10...c6 keeps the N on a3 out of b5>

But it allows 11.Nc7+> That is true. White has covered c2 and Black had better cover c7 in return. One way is by 10...Kd8 and on 11 Nb5 c6 forks the knights

Nov-16-18  Marmot PFL: 11 Nb5 Kd8, there is no problem not castling here.
Nov-16-18  Ulhumbrus: One variation given by the computer suggests the possibility that Carlsen is playing for no more than a small advantage so as to put Caruana under pressure for a long time eg if Caruana gets an isolated d pawn
Nov-16-18  PhilFeeley: On 4. Nd3 vs. Nf3, Maurice said that the difference is between 51,000 vs 77 times for each in the database. Wild.
