Oct-07-17 | | Dieago: I saw that the rook trade would open a can of whoop for white but missed the queen jump along with a million pins. Nice puzzle! |
|
Oct-07-17 | | ChemMac: Doesn't 31.fe+ win simply? 31....QXe6 32.Qf4+ Qf6 33.BXf6 ef 34. Rd6 |
|
Oct-07-17 | | ChemMac: I see Stockfish agrees.... |
|

 | | al wazir: Not even close.
If 34...exf6, then 35. Qc7+ Qe7 36. Bc4+. |
|
Oct-07-17 | | Walter Glattke: 28.Rxc6 is cracking the black constellation. 28.Bxd4+? Nxd4 29.Qe5+ Kg8 30.Rxd4 Qxd4 31.Qxd4 Rxc1 or
30.Rxc8 Rxc8 31.Rxd4 Qc6
If 31.fxe6 in the match, then Qxe6
32.Qf4+ Ke8 33.Qxb8+ Kd7 34.Bxb6+ Qd6
35.Qc7+ Ke6 36.Bc4+ Ke5 37.Rd5+ Kxe4
38.Re1 Kf3 39.Re3# or32.-Qf6 33.Bxf6 as shown. |

Oct-07-17 | | clement41: After the critical moment at white's 28th, another one occurs at white's 32nd, where a variety of moves are game-winners. So much so that it seems the only way white can go wrong is in lines like 28 Qxb8? Nxb8 29 Bxc6 Qxc6 =- or 28 fe+ Qxe6 29 Qxe6+ Kxe6 30 Bxd7+? Kxd7 31 Be5+ Kc6 32 Bxb8 Rxb8 =- with a rook endgame better for black e.g. 33 Rd5?! Rb5! 34 Rd3 a4! 35 Kf2 Rb3! 36 Re3 etc. |
|
Oct-07-17 | | clement41: Oops I meant 32 Qxb8? and 32 fe+ obviously |
|
Oct-07-17 | | patzer2: For today's Saturday puzzle, I went Pawn hunting with 28. Bxd4+ Nxd4 29. Qe5+ which fizzles out to a level game after 29...Kh6! 30. Rxd4 (not 30. Rxc8? Nf3+ 31. Kf2 Nxe5 32. Rxd7 Nexd7 -+) 30...Qa7! 31. Rxc8 Rxc8 = (0.08 @ 32 depth, Stockfish 8.) Instead, White went King hunting with 28. Rxc6!! Qxc6 29. Qe5+ Kf7 30. Bxd4 +- (+62.22 @ 31 depth, Stockfish 8,) where the sham sacrifice of the Rook provided a decisive attack against the helpless Black King. P.S.: Black's decisive error in a bad position was 27...fxe6?, allowing 28. Rxc6!! +-. Necessary instead was 27...Qd6 28. exf7 Nd7 29. Qd5 Nde5 ± (+0.87 @ 33 depth, Stockfish 8) with drawing chances. In the opening, our Opening Explorer indicates the popular 7...0-0 is heavily favored at Master level over the seldom played 7....Bg4 from this game. Apparently, most Masters playing this opening prefer not to give up the light squared Bishop too soon. |

Oct-07-17 | | morfishine: I had the guard removal/exchange sac <28.Rxc6> allowing <29.Qe5+> & <30.Bxd4> and White is beautifully centralized ***** |
|
Oct-07-17 | | malt: Got 28.R:c6 Q:c6 29.Qe5+ Kf7 30.B:d4 Rg8 31.fe6+ Q:e6 32.Qf4+ Ke8 33.Q:b8+ and 34.Q:b6 |
|
Oct-07-17 | | Cheapo by the Dozen: It was pretty clear that White should try Rxc6 plus action on the diagonals. But I went awry by the second move, as I was focusing on the bishop on the long diagonal and not also the queen. |
|
Oct-07-17 | | thegoodanarchist: Why not 34...exf6 ?
< al wazir: Not even close. If 34...exf6, then 35. Qc7+ Qe7 36. Bc4+.> Oh, that's why. |
|
Oct-07-17 | | rajaonn: Really loving it on White side , to learn and crush this wily Sicilian anytime of our choice. Hope such a,b,c pawn pushers/only play for black in this opening shall crush more black kings, and ask itself - what did you do with your C5,D6 opening.( myself a lifetime sicilian player, will definitely move away- with the infinite options of White). White can choose the timer of the Bomb, and Black shall wait and wait to clear his weaknesses, parallely to see his king smoked in bed. |

Oct-07-17 | | Marmot PFL: Found the first exchange sacrifice and the next few moves, not as far as the second sacrifice though. |
|
Oct-07-17 | | stst: Initially saw about 6 lines (f6+, fxe6, Rxd4, Bxd4, RxN, Qc5) but pick the most action-provoking one to analyze:
28.Rxd4 if Nd5 blocks, RxN leading to a gaining exchange, so suppose NxR
29.Qe5+ the best spot Kf8 (Kg8 leads to distant to get back to center upon BxN next)
30.BxN then Black is stuck, RxR no effect to save ... almost any, or Ke8
31.Qh8+ Kf7
32.Qg7+ Ke8
33.Qg8#
see how it's actually played out... |

 | | Dionysius1: Easy enough to follow, though hard to see. Some puzzles at this end of the week I just don't "get" at all - often I'm none the wiser by the end of the puzzle about why the moves were forced, This one seems crisp and clear. |
