Kibitzer's Corner
Feb-19-17  johnkr: The endgame was pretty even. Li tempted her into going for 69...Ra2ch and letting the White king invade-- sort of risky. But Yifan could have maintained status quo with simply 69...Ra5, idea 70...Rb5 and I can't see how White would make progress.
Feb-20-17  Pasker: Li Chao missed a winning chance. 75 Ke6 was winning. That would have lead to a winning lucena position.
Feb-20-17  Nerwal: <That would have lead to a winning lucena position.>

Indeed and it was hard to understand why a 2720 player would not play this rather obvious 75. ♔e6, but it seems after 75. ♔e6 ♖e4+ 76. ♔f6 f4 77. ♔xg6 f3 78. ♖f7+ ▢ ♔g8 79. d5 ♖d4 things get very tricky. White has to find 80. ♖c7!! (▢) ♔f8 81. ♖c8+ ▢ ♔e7 82. ♖c6!! (▢) when 82... ♖f4 83. ♖f6 ♖xf6 (82... ♖d4 leads to the mentioned Lucena position) 84. gxf6+ is a winning pawn endgame despite the black pawn queening first.

Feb-20-17  Pasker: Yeah, I see the follow up is still complicated. Whatever the outcome is (worst will be a draw) 75. Ke6 or Ke5 is an obvious move to start with but Li Chao didn't play it for some reason.
