Penguincw: < Phony Benoni: There are no Monday puzzles after move 100. >

I checked your game collection, and found one Monday puzzle past move 100. This was in 2004, where some puzzles may have not followed the traditional pattern. You be the judge.

134...? (yes this is from white's perspective)

Solution: S Baldazzi vs A Holmsten, 2001

I also used the Sacrifice Explorer, and randomly chose this game. Looks Monday enough.

102.?

There you go folks. Looking for Monday puzzles (may be a bit more challenging)? Try those 2. (Monday puzzles can be too easy; gonna work your brain, but not too much)

---

* Spoiler: It's a queen sac, so Monday enough.

Jul-30-18  ChessHigherCat: Veryvery strange Monday and this seems like another recycled job.

The first objective is to prevent the bishop from getting to e8, which would allow to it to switch to the long diagonal.

That means either 115. Nf7 or Nb7. The latter is preferable for a reason that will soon become a parent (it's both fertile and pregnant with meaning).

115. Nb7 Bb6 (only moof) 116. Kd6 and now the bshop is paralyzed so Kf5 117. Kc6 Ke6.

This a critical juncture, where Kxb6? would allow Kxd7. Fortunately white has mirakle moof, Nc6+ protecting the pawn, and if Bxc6? d=Q.

This is a Monday puzzle like yesterday's was a Sunday puzzle.

Jul-30-18  ChessHigherCat: Now, I understand: This may look like at least a Wednesday puzzle, but in fact it's from game no. 6,732 of the Carlsen vs. Svidler match. I think the <CG> staff went on vacation and let their pet chimpanzee out of the cage to take care of the website.
Jul-30-18  patzer2: Had to double check the day of the week, because today's (115. ?) Monday puzzle was quite difficult for me.

I found the game line starting with 115. Nb7, but not until I found the last move 118. Nc5+ did I feel confident it was winning.

For a Black improvement, 13...Kf4 = or 14...Kf4 = appear to hold the draw.

Jul-30-18  diagonalley: excellent puzzle... (but for novices? ... hardly)
Jul-30-18  ChessHigherCat: Correction: mirakle moof: Nc5+ not Nc6+
Jul-30-18  Skewbrow: Something wrong the previewer? It won't allow me to make any move at all?!
Jul-30-18  jith1207: I think the Pet Chimpanzee has got more IQ, that this is Monday puzzle in the Planet of the Apes.
Jul-30-18  jith1207: <Chessgames.com> hasn't kibitzed yet since 24th of July. So yes, this is running on automation, guys. Or worse, taken over by zombies.
Jul-30-18  Walter Glattke: Remember, I have seen this before.
Jul-30-18  agb2002: Recycled.
Jul-30-18  Mayankk: And after an ego-boosting Sunday, we have an ego-deflating Monday.

Such are the ways of the world. Just when you think your chess has finally improved...

Jul-30-18  WorstPlayerEver: <cg> trolling.
Jul-30-18  Once: Okay campers, rise and shine, and don’t forget your booties cos it’s cooold out there today.
Jul-30-18  et1: very easy ? my word !
Jul-30-18  malt: This looks familiar, see earlier post.
Jul-30-18  ChessHigherCat: Like <malt>, I also refer the reader to my post on p. 1 of the kibitzing, which includes my unpopular proposal for the GOTD title: "Volkov and live!"

Hmmm, a win in 15 moves against any defence.

Yep, that's not quite <Monday> stuff - even if you saw the same puzzle a month before on a <Friday> - it is still not a <Monday> POTD a month later...

Jul-30-18  saturn2: The puzzle itself is not monday but if you have seen it before it is monday level to solve it again.

steinitzfan: The Monday puzzle for androids in the year 2500.
Jul-30-18  TheTamale: The ChessGames viewer is telling me that this is a 3-move repetition draw, so I can't even play with the end position by moving the pieces around, as I usually do.
Jul-30-18  patzer2: Correction: For a Black improvement, 114...Kf4 = (Stockfish 9 analysis of move 114...?) appears to hold the draw.

After the decisive error 114...Bc7?, White can force mate in 18 with 115. Nb7! +- (Stockfish 9 analysis of move 115.?).

Jul-30-18  awfulhangover: It took me a long time to go for Nb7. Meanwhile, I felt like an idiot. Very easy?
Jul-30-18  Chess for life: Definitely not a normal Monday!!
Jul-30-18  Marmot PFL: The Mondays are getting harder and this one requires some good ending skills. Both players are over 2400 BTW.
