Nov-15-14 | | MarkFinan: <chancho: Guys, I admire Vishy Anand.
He's one of the greatest ever on AND off the board.
It's just mostly banter on my part.
But I still maintain that Age is playing a factor.
I hope I'm wrong.
We'll see.> >
I know what you mean Chancho, but Anand can still beat all the other youngsters. |
|
Nov-15-14 | | morfishine: I'm disappointed in the overall quality. First, Carlsen makes a horrendous blooper, then Anand overlooks it. A better example of a comedy of errors is hard to find |
|
Nov-15-14
 | | MissScarlett: In Vishy's case, deeply depressed. |

 | | keypusher: <OBIT: Well, allow me to mention for the record that the initial reference on this site to ...Nxe5 was someone mentioning a chess engine is showing that ...Nxe5 led to wild complications. Then it was dismissed as a computer move and unclear. Then there were comments that, wait a second, it's not such a computer move, and, in fact, White gets into a very bad position. Finally, we got to the point where everyone was talking about Carlsen's horrendous blunder and Anand's missed refutation. And now, it appears everyone and their grandmother realized instantly that this was the blunder of the century..> :-) |

Nov-15-14 | | chessvcr: Sorry an off topic, but just for the sake of knowledge. What is the revenue model of FIDE? You can't see it like any other game, less audience, that too watching over internet. And internet advertising does not have that much money. Still you can heard people like kirsan enjoying being fide president. Even a competition like WCC doesn't look so attractive for sponser. |

 | | Gypsy: The second Carlsen win and again he got a lot of play from active rooks in front of his pawns. |
|
Nov-15-14
 | | OBIT: Ernie: Yeh, Svidler claims he did. Unfortunately, we don't have video proof of this, since the broadcast just happened to be on break at the time. The timing of these breaks have been downright miraculous, consistently occurring at the worst possible moments. |

 | | MissScarlett: If you want my opinion of FIDE, FIDE accounts. |

 | | MissScarlett: I'm sure Norwegian TV had the coverage; if so, it'll be uploaded to YT soon. |
|
Nov-15-14 | | SetNoEscapeOn: <User: OBIT> Whatever anybody said, what is your opinion of the tactic? Too deep for you to ever find? |
|
Nov-15-14 | | Kazzak: If Carlsen had played Kd1, the game would have been one for the annals. Now it's destined for Famous Chess Blunders.
Play before the blunder was excellent, with lots of promise. |

 | | Willber G: <MissScarlett: I'm sure Norwegian TV had the coverage; if so, it'll be uploaded to YT soon.> If you find it please post the link on here. Having said that, if they were taking a break then the commentators' comments wouldn't be recorded, but at least we may see Carlsen's reaction. |

 | | MissScarlett: < Fabiano Caruana @FabianoCaruana ยท 2h 2 hours ago Shocking blunders... Vishy won't be able to sleep tonight. #CarlsenAnand> It'll be a long night for Aruna. |
|
Nov-15-14 | | Pulo y Gata: Perhaps after this Anand will finally be convinced that he has to sharpen the struggle and bring it to the champ. It's hard to understand why he continues to go the arduous task of playing on Carlsen's strengths. Both players' miss on the 26th reveals the pressure simmering beneath the surface. A typical Carlsen win, always impressive how he achieves an advantage, nurses it, and presses the full point. Again, the ball is on Anand's court after this another turn in the match. I think it will get harder for Anand to bounce back as the match drags on. There's the stamina and the fact that Carlsen will be more careful to avoid losing again in theoretical disputes. |

Nov-15-14
 | | MissScarlett: Yes, I'm hearing that at the moment of Kd2, Norwegian TV were airing a commercial for an inflatable Anastasia Karlovich doll. No wonder Vishy missed ...Nxe5. |

 | | OBIT: SetNoEscapeOn: Well, I probably have an exaggerated opinion of myself, but I think I would find it. However, I think it would take me at least ten minutes for the idea to be fully realized, which means that, if there was another move I was reasonably sure I wanted to play (as Anand evidently was with ...a4), I'd miss it completely. |
|
Nov-15-14 | | VargPOD: The press conference was awful. Every question was about the blunder, and they just kept repeating the same questions about how Magnus felt after making the blunder and how Vishy felt after missing the right response. I would have liked to hear Anand's opinion about opening choice. Kramnik criticized heavily Anand's passive position after the opening. |
|
Nov-15-14
 | | OhioChessFan: Vladdy should tell Vishy, "Hey, I missed a mate in one, so don't feel bad." |
|
Nov-15-14 | | SirRuthless: This started yesterday... His unwillingness to push a nice position was not reciprocated today. Magnus cares about one thing, winning, and he is willing to do it in any way possible. Anand got no breaks after he missed the shot but he shouldn't have gone for this passive Queenless ending anyhow. What a toothless open sicilian that should never be repeated by anand again. I think Anand got his chance but missed it and now he is toast, psychologically and physically done. Magnus' strategy of hang around circulating the position until Anand commited suicide worked swimmingly. |
|
Nov-15-14
 | | OBIT: Or, Nigel Short could tell Anand, "Hey, I once played the only move that gave my opponent checkmate in one." |
|
Nov-15-14 | | JAMESROOK: Hope this doesn't signal an awful situation for Anand - people miss things in World Championships. I miss them in my club games but hopefully Anand will make a fight of it. |
|
Nov-15-14 | | csmath: Stunning collapse of Anand in not exactly great game by Magnus. |
|
Nov-15-14
 | | Sneaky: <OBIT> Haha, yes, what Nigel calls "the only helpmate he's ever composed." Short vs Beliavsky, 1992 And speaking of WCC blunders, don't forget Chigorin vs Steinitz, 1892, where Chigorin was expected to write a move down and seal it for adjournment, but decided to walk into mate-in-two instead. |
|
Nov-15-14 | | csmath: <Hope this doesn't signal an awful situation for Anand - people miss things in World Championships. I miss them in my club games but hopefully Anand will make a fight of it.> It is awful now. These kinds of misses do turn to be decisive, one cannot afford this given the short length of the match. This is more comparable to candidate matches in 1970-1990. |
