Jan-27-14
 | | Phony Benoni: Mandi? Mandi? Where you gonna go now? |
Jan-27-14 | | Patriot: 19...Ng4 resigns.
It looks stronger than 19...Nc4 since it threatens mate on h2. |
Jan-27-14 | | lost in space: I love Mondays, especially ones without queen sac.
19...Ng4 and it is over.
Threat: Qxh2# and Nxe3 with Qg2# |
Jan-27-14
 | | offramp: A game of four first names: Attila, Mandy, Peter & Danny. |
Jan-27-14
 | | FSR: 19...Ng4 0-1 |
Jan-27-14
 | | Phony Benoni: <Patriot> After 19...Nc4, White can survive with 20.e5 Nxe3 21.Qxf3, though he's losing up a whole rook after 21...Nxf1. It's too bad Aranybika is the name of a hotel, not a separate site. Otherwise, we could have Attila Two Cities. |
Jan-27-14 | | Cheapo by the Dozen: Happy Monday! That was easy. :) |
Jan-27-14 | | Cheapo by the Dozen: I guess White's last chance to avoid immediate destruction was the awkward 17 Qh3. Not a good-looking move. |
Jan-27-14 | | PhilFeeley: Why 14. Nc3? White drops a whole bishop. Was it just to prevent Bxb2? |
Jan-27-14 | | HowDoesTheHorsieMove: It look to me like there has been a change in Monday puzzles, away from the weird sacrifices. If so, I approve. Queen sac Mondays were getting boring. |
Jan-27-14 | | M.Hassan: <Cheapo by the Dozen:I guess White's last chance to avoid immediate destruction was the awkward 17 Qh3. Not a good-looking move.> I dont see anything wrong with 17.Qh3 but Chessmaster recommends the following: 17.Qe2 Nc6
18.Qg5 Bxc3
19.bxc3 Qxc3
And still, White is behind by a piece but there is no threat of mate. |
Jan-27-14 | | weary willy: Attila the Hen |
Jan-27-14 | | Stormbringer: Huh. I wanted to do Bh6 to force the issue with the knight, but it's slower I think. |
Jan-27-14 | | JG27Pyth: Bit of a ratings mismatch. |
Jan-27-14 | | Oxspawn: Only the white knight prevents immediate mate, so give it a second job to do.
19.... Ng4
If the knight takes then
20.... Qg2++
If it doesn't then
20.... Qh2++
It's Monday. |
Jan-27-14 | | coolknight: <Oxspawn: If it doesn't then 20... Qh2++> White can extend another move by moving the f1 Rook, e.g 20. Rfd1 Qh2+ 21. Kf1 Qf2# |
Jan-27-14 | | bachiller: Mandi, Mandi, so good to me. |
Jan-27-14 | | morfishine: 19...Ng4
Oh Mandy, you came and you gave without taking
***** |
Jan-27-14 | | Kyudaime: 19...Ng4 and Black wins. |
Jan-27-14 | | agb2002: Black has a bishop for two pawns.
The white knight is overburdened because it prevents 19... Qg2# and 19... Ng4 followed by ... Qxh2. Therefore, 19... Ng2: A) 20.Nxg4 Qg2#.
B) 20.Rfb1 Qxh2+ 21.Kf1 Qh1# or 21... Qxf2#. |
Jan-27-14 | | stacase: Once I realized it was Black's and not Whites's move (-: |
Jan-27-14 | | zb2cr: Black could mate on g2 if the White Knight on e3 were not there. So, 19. ... Ng4, which threatens mate on h2, deflects the Knight. White sees that 20. Nxg4, defending one mate, is met by another mate with 20. ... Qg2#. |
Jan-27-14 | | gars: Suggestion of a pun to this game:
"Mandi, mandi, so good to me!" |
Jan-27-14 | | whiteshark: <19... Ng4>, and Mandi is done. |
Jan-27-14 | | Cheapo by the Dozen: <M.Hassan>,
I think you made an e2/e7 typo. Otherwise, you seem correct. And I'd forgotten that White had already managed to lose a piece. |
