fredthebear: It's another B26 Sicilian Closed variation that readers won't be able to find under the Sicilian label.
Oct-24-23  Luke Warm: <Columbo>

Can't get through an episode as Peter Falk's good looks were too distracting, especially considering the character lives a thinking man's lifestyle. Which brings me to the life and times of one Hugh Hefner. Hef was born in...

  fredthebear: Peter Falk?!

I'd say Lee Majors or Tom Selleck, Sean Connery, Jack Lord, or Robert Redford are handsome fellowz.

I'll bet Peter played some chess. His hair hints of being a chess player.

Arnold Schwarzenegger plays a lot of chess. It's obvious.

So does Woody Harrelson. Ha, ha, hah!

Oh, here's Peter taking down a fake GM: https://www.bing.com/videos/rivervi...

You know it. Hef plays too: https://en.chessbase.com/post/hugh-...

Sally Simpson: Speaking of Columbo. (I won't ask why) I watched 'The Cheap Detective' https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_C... the other day. Brilliant. Peter Falk's impersonation of Bogart throughout the film is hilarious.

OK. Why did Columbo pop up.

perfidious: Falk was an enthusiastic player, and actually appeared in <Chess Life and Review>; believe it was sometime in 1973.

While Falk was named in the photo, the late Dennis Waterman was not, which was surprising really, as he was already a strong master and well known on the West Coast.

  Sally Simpson: Hi Perfidious,

I was really just wondering why Columbo appeared in the thread. I could not see a connection between him, the players or the event.

I thought a post in the wrong thread or in answer to a deleted post. A good game this one. Not too sure why White slipped in 26...bxc3 here

Instead of 26...gxf2 though no harm done, White is still winning. Possibly just enjoying themselves.

perfidious: <Geoff>, it is curious indeed.

On another topic: the number of similar games listed as A07, as this one was, is remarkable, none of which, so far as I have seen, belong there by the remotest stretch of one's imagination.
