Nov-14-08  sneaky pete: It's surprising, highly amazing and I can't believe it, that this game has so far been unkibitzed. One reason why this gem (already incorporated in 3, soon in 4, game collections) is so unbelievable, amazing and surprising is that neither Von Gottschall nor Albin played at the 6th American Chess Congress, New York, 1889.

Another reason why (the original result 0-1) has unfortunately been reversed by the cg.com administrator.

Nov-14-08  Calli: I am shocked that such game which introduced "Von Gottschall's Bazooka" (24.Rf3) should receive so little attention.

The Tournament Book commented on 33.Rf8+ "Weiß konnte hier das Matt in 4 Zügen ankündigen." - Der Siebente Kongress Des Deutschen Schachbundes Dresden 1892

Jun-16-14  sneaky pete: That's 22... cxd4 23.cxd4 .. etc. See
Von Gottschall vs Albin, 1892
Jun-16-14  sneaky pete: 6 years ago this game dated from 1889, now we have advanced to 1892. The players only need to take a Zeppelin from New York to Dresden.

perfidious: <sneaky pete> If you drop by this page another six years on, Gottschall will have joined the Wright brothers in a cross-country flight.
