May-14-11 | | 14DogKnight: I respect Kamsky and Gelfand for trying to win games. |
May-14-11
 | | An Englishman: Good Morning: Perhaps it is a theoretical draw, but in my experience, the weaker side in a theoretical draw usually lost in practice. |
May-14-11 | | Marmot PFL: <in my experience, the weaker side in a theoretical draw usually lost in practice.> That's why you aren't a GM :) |
May-14-11 | | BobCrisp: <Gelfand> looks like a heap of rubbish. |
May-14-11 | | sofouuk: <the weaker side in a theoretical draw usually lost in practice> if gelfand wanted to win surely he had to go for the 49 ... Rh2 line. don't think white is even 'practically' worse here |
May-14-11 | | PinnedPiece: <BobCrisp: <Gelfand> looks like a heap of rubbish.> His position at 53..Kf6, or his chair posture? |
May-14-11 | | haydn20: Looks like solid defense by Kamsky: the Q-side counterplay draws. |
May-14-11 | | PinnedPiece: Does anyone know if the live video feed is playing music audible in the hall, or is it just ovrlaid on the video feed? If audible in the hall, it would drive me crazy, as it appears to be doing to Gelfland. . |
May-14-11 | | wordfunph: it's official 1/2 |
May-14-11 | | Marmot PFL: You could play it out with black, but not with much hope to win. Kamsky won't have many problems |
May-14-11 | | BobCrisp: Should we just cut to the Armageddon game now? |
May-14-11
 | | An Englishman: Good Morning: <MarmotPFL>, true, too true. The oddity is that the first time I ever said that was to an opponent who was nagging me to agree to a draw in R & 4 pawn vs. R & 3 pawn ending with all of the pawns on the King side. He shouldn't have talked so much--my response rattled him and he promptly lost. |
May-14-11 | | Marmot PFL: <An Englishman> Don't blame you. It's up to the player trying to draw to prove he can. Really he shouldn't even be offering it when you are better. |
May-14-11
 | | Gypsy: Intriguing game. No real winning chances for either side in the final position. |
May-14-11 | | dangerhump: 26. Bd3 maybe a slight improvement |
May-14-11 | | picard: 21. f4! would have given Kamsky better winning chances |
May-14-11
 | | HeMateMe: Kamsky played an interesting opening, gave up a pawn to try to get some tactical play against the King trapped in the middle. |
May-14-11 | | wordfunph: from TWIC..
"Was interesting game, white had some attacking chances, by that time white was in time trouble black was about winning then the rook ending was slightly better for black, then a draw." - Gata Kamsky

May-15-11 | | sergeidave: Why didn't Kamsky take the two knights for the rook? Isn't that a good exchange? |
May-15-11 | | polarmis: Here's my final version of Sergey Shipov's commentary on this game: http://www.chessintranslation.com/2... |
May-15-11 | | lost in space: <<BobCrisp>: <Gelfand> looks like a heap of rubbish.> Might be, but thats the case also if he is close to winning. |
May-15-11 | | Pygeum Lycopene: <If Gelfand had played 38...Qh5!(instead of Qf5) Kamsky is stone dead, since he would no longer have the Qxe3 trick;> I was wondering about this move too. Kamsky is an escape artist. and with his time usually so low, its like watching houdini escape the water tank. |
May-15-11 | | howlwolf: Polarmis,
thanks for the link. Shipov's analysis is excellent. |
May-15-11 | | BobCrisp: What's the Russian for <heap of rubbish>? |
