Jun-25-23  YoungEd: I don't understand why Black didn't play 8...Bxe5. And then Black spends a few tempi from moves 9-12, maneuvering to exchange for White's undeveloped dark-square bishop! Not too surprising that White manages a crunch on the queen-side.

This was tried in A Anastasian vs Baklan, 2003 and the game continued 8...Bxe5 9. e4 Bg7 10. Be3 f5 11. Qd2 Ng4 12. Bxg4 fxg4, and at that point it looks like White would have a big advantage with <13. Bh6>. (White played 13. 0-0 and the game was eventually drawn.)
