Kibitzer's Corner
Jan-06-10  dhotts: Doesn't 28...Rf8 save the day for Black?
Jan-06-10  markwell: look harder
Jan-06-10  810609: <dhotts> I think not. After 28. ... Rf8 you still cannot prevent 29. Qe7+ Kh8 30. Ng3 and White eliminated most of threats and Black´s Bishop on b7 is still hanging, so he has to play something like 30. ... Bxg2 31. Kxg2 Qf4 32. Rf1 Qf3+ 33. Kg1 d3 or maybe better 30. ... Qf4 31. Nf5 Rxf5 32. Bxf5 Qxf5 33. Qxb7 d3, but I think both positions are lost for Black, as advanced pawns are not enough compensation for material disadvantage.
Jan-06-10  OneArmedScissor: 29. Qe7+ fails to 29. ...Qxe7.
Jan-06-10  810609: <OneArmedScissor> in the game as it processed, yes. But we are discussing <dhotts>´s proposal 28. ... Rf8 instead of 28. ... g4

so pawn is still on g5 and after 29. Qe7+ 29. ... Qxe7 is impossible.

Jan-15-10  Midas Touch: very smooth play by Mamedyarov
