  Phony Benoni: OK, I see the exchange and an assortment of pawns: <29.Nxg6+ hxg6 30.Qh3+ Bh6 31.Qxh6+ Qh7 32.Qxh7+ Kxh7 33.Nxf6+>. That's probably too complicated.
May-07-18  ChessHigherCat: 29. Nxg6+ hxg6 30. Qh4+ Bh6 31. Qxh6 Qh7 32. Qxh7 Kxh7 33. Nxf6 and black is forked.

More of a Tuesday puzzle IMHYEO (in my humble yet exalted opinion)

FSR: What <PB> and <CHC> said.
May-07-18  diagonalley: (this not a puzzle for the novice)
May-07-18  drollere: mmm ... easy enough for a monday, for sure.
May-07-18  saturn2: Nxg6+ White wins 3 pawns and an exchange.
May-07-18  agb2002: White has two knights for the bishop pair.

White can win decisive material with 29.Nxg6+ hxg6 30.Qh4+ Bh6 31.Qxh6+ Qh7 32.Qxh7+ Kxh7 33.Nxf6+ and 34.Nxe8 + - [R+2P vs b].

May-07-18  smitha1: Monday puzzle process:
- Make craziest move on the board
- Solve puzzle
- Take full credit
May-07-18  landshark: <PB> I thought it too complicated too. Finally saw nothing else.
May-07-18  AlicesKnight: 29.Nxg6+ hxg6; 30 Qh4+ forces ...Bh6 and White can recapture and then N-fork the Rs (maybe after Q exchanges).
May-07-18  stacase: I woulda done what White did over the board and when Black tipped his King I woulda accepted the victory.

Has that happened to you that your opponent unexpectedly resigns ie., you didn't see everything that your last move did?

But yeah, this was not a "Wham bam thank you ma'am" Monday.

May-07-18  Cybe: 28... g5!
May-07-18  Cheapo by the Dozen: I didn't exactly have the "It's too complicated for a Monday" concern. Rather, I kept checking for a while to see if there was anything more decisive than getting to an obviously won endgame.
May-07-18  leRevenant: Julie can battle on for a while longer but Sue will seize'er in the end.
May-07-18  mel gibson: Yes - an easy one on Monday.
All the first few moves are forced with only single solution moves available. I was looking for a checkmate but the real power was the forking of the 2 rooks later on.

Stockfish 9 says:

score for White +5.32 depth 34

May-07-18  cocker: Julie plays for Stourbridge Chess Club in the Birmingham & Worcester Leagues (England!).
May-07-18  morfishine: <29.Nxg6+> and White wins
May-07-18  gofer: Like many, I was lost. It is a <Monday>, albeit a PH in the UK, but still a <Monday>. So we are looking for 1, 2 or perhaps 3-move-combo that seals the deal...

...but try as I might I couldn't find one. So I went for the 6-move-combo that wins an exchange and 2 pawns.

<29 Nxg6+ hxg6 30 Qh3/Qh4 Bh6 31 Qxh6+ Qh7 32 Qxh7+ Kxh7 33 Nxf6 Kg7 34 Nxe8 Rxe8>

There a few variations on this theme (at the end), but the result is more or less the same (5.60+).

But this is hardly the stuff of <Mondays>...

May-07-18  malt: 29.N:g6+ hg6 30.Qh4+ Bh6 31.Q:h6+ Qh7 32.Q:h7+ K:h7 33.N:f6+ wins material

What, No Queen sac ?

May-07-18  Once: An odd one. It's a longer combination than we're used to for a Monday and it doesn't end in a snap mate or massive material gain.

But I suppose it's Monday-ish because it's all forced, and that means that it ought to be the first thing we look at.

May-07-18  gars: No Queen sacrifice today? Something must be wrong.
May-07-18  Oxspawn: Because I know it is Monday, I know ergo I “can do” this puzzle. So I got it – although I too felt I must be missing something. If it had been Wednesday I would have found this more challenging. I also wondered if I could actually convert the position after the fork into a win. If I was black in that position I would play on hoping for a blunder. If I was white I would be dreading finding the black bishop had arrived on e2 or the black rook and bishop converged on g2 while I was tying my shoelaces and none of my pieces had moved. It often happens in my games ….
May-07-18  WorstPlayerEver: No Queen sac today

All my hope has faded away
The lady stands forlorn
A symbol of the dawn
No Queen sac today
It seems a common sight
But people passing by
Don't know the reason why

May-07-18  leRevenant: Yes, how many times have we been undone by our shoelaces.
May-07-18  thegoodanarchist: Shouldn't a Monday puzzle be more decisive than 2 pawns and an exchange?
