FSR: The player of the white pieces does look pretty plump; not sure that this is the best pun.
Feb-05-15  morfishine: A fascinating struggle.

The word-play scores a big fat zero

fm avari viraf: I played Watu Kobese in the Commonwealth Chess Championship 1996. He's a nice guy. I think, he got his GM norm.

I will look up the game in cg.com db.

I am thinking that his last name, Kobese, is 3 syllables. Is that correct? Kind of inhibits the pun, IMO...

Feb-05-15  thegoodanarchist: FM AV: Sadly, I don't see your 1996 game in the dB. In any event, you are right - we should congratulate him on his GM norm!

Well played, Watu!

Especially if his last name is 3 syllables, as I am almost certain it is.

FSR: This new pun makes just as little sense as the old one, but at least it's not obnoxious.
Feb-06-15  N0B0DY: Kobe is the Japanese Seattle.

OhioChessFan: <FSR> they were working on a deadline and anything was better. On a related note, I forgot Rule #1 of Effective Complaining is to offer an alternative.
Feb-06-15  Abdel Irada: Kobese, if pronounced as I think it is, is hard to make a good pun on, so I can sympathize with <cg.com>'s difficulties.

Perhaps a pun on the other player's name would be easier?

Say: "Find Another Plan, Stan."

Feb-07-15  Abdel Irada: <N0B0DY: Kobe is the Japanese Seattle.>

Have you tried the Seattle Beef steak yet?
