Kibitzer's Corner
Feb-21-09  allison123: resignation??
May-11-09  whiteshark: <<DANGER! <<<<<>>>>>>>

Do not look into the Lasa with the remaining Eck, err, eye.

Jan-11-12  Morphischer: What the Eck?
Jul-27-12  Sem: Did White lose on time?
Jul-27-12  Petrosianic: They didn't time games back then.
Dec-20-14  welhelm1982: And with black pieces barron tassilo von heydebrand und der la...oh my got the game has finished
Oct-17-22  Cheapo by the Dozen: What the Eck!!

Seriously, Eck's problem is his vulnerability of f2. The apparent defense of 9 Nh3 fails to 9 ... Qh5+, which White cannot meet with 10 g3.

Another pun option is to recall that Ecke is German for "corner".

Jul-29-23  generror: <4...f5>? Ouch. <5.f3>? Double ouch.

The vulnerability of f2 is one thing, but Eck's main problem is that he resigned too early! After <9.Nf3 Nf2 10.Qa4+ Bd7 11.Qb3 Nxh1> (D), and now either <12.Qxb7 Na6 13.Qxa6> with a knight and pawn for the rook, or <12.Bg5 Be7 13.Bxe7 Qxe714.Qxb7 Qc5 15.O-O-O Nf2 16.Qxa8>, after which he is a pawn up. In both cases Stockfish says it's completely equal.

He could even set a little trap with <9.Qe2!? Nf2? 10.Qh5+ Kf8 11.d6 Qf6 12.Bg5> (D), and Stockfish says it's +3.5.
