Jul-26-08  eisenherz: Hi, there.

What do you think, can a human beat Rybka?

Jul-26-08  Ideefixe: <Who called it a King's Pawn game? It looks like a Catalan or Bogo-Indian, or combination thereof> Anyone voting for a Queen's Indian?!
Jul-26-08  solskytz: Qd8+ with d7 ?
Jul-26-08  HFBA: It seems Bacrot gained some confidence after defeating Pelletier and if all goes right and Bacrot wins, Carlsen will take first place.
Jul-26-08  SCUBA diver: How about QxR. ..
Jul-26-08  solskytz: then a7 (the Q covers b6 against the Kt)
Jul-26-08  solskytz: I like QxR also
Jul-26-08  solskytz: but I like my own suggestion better - it's a heavier kind of crunch.
Jul-26-08  hms123: 17-ply

Analysis by Fritz 10:

1. (6.03): 1.Qd8+ Kg6 2.d7 Nb6 3.Qe8 Qxd7 4.Rxd7 Nxd7 5.a7

2. (4.01): 1.Qxf7+ Kxf7 2.d7 Qxa6 3.d8Q Nb6 4.Qc7+ Kg6 5.Rd6+ Kh7 6.Kf2 Qc4 7.Qxb6

3. (2.28): 1.Qb8 Nc5 2.a7 Rxa7 3.Qxa7 Nd7 4.Qb7 b3 5.Qb4 e4 6.Rb2 Qe5 7.Rxb3 exf3+ 8.exf3 Qe2+ 9.Kg1 Qd1+ 10.Kf2 Qc2+ 11.Ke3 Qxh2 12.Qc3+

Jul-26-08  solskytz: no... you are right - QxR after all. looks like Qd8+ Kg6 d7 Qxa6 with ...Rxd7 is more complicated in view of black's b-pawn, which would have no significance after your QxR. I withdraw my argument :-)
Jul-26-08  solskytz: and the more I look at it, the two variations look more and more the same, as a6 would also fall in the QxR variant - actually there's no real difference (that's my current evaluation. Since I'm not an engine I'm not attaching any " 6.09" sign to it - but that's more or less what I think :-)
Jul-26-08  Vilya: Go go Etienne!!! :) :) :)
Jul-26-08  Big Slick: Qd8+ and Qxf7+ both win, so it's just a question of style. Personally I would rather play in Rybka's +4.01 line with the queen's removed, than the +6.03 line with the queens still flying around.
Jul-26-08  solskytz: the queens will fly around in both variations, as after QxR you don't kill black's queen, and white gets one from the d-pawn. It's really the same.
Jul-26-08  solskytz: hmmm... now I see that in the current line after ...Qxa6 we have Qe8 - crushing black even more than I predicted
Jul-26-08  SCUBA diver: Looks like a7. ..

An Englishman: Don't forget to check out the entire game. Bacrot played in a most enterprising manner today and took quite a few chances.
Jul-26-08  whiteshark: So back to coffee, <PinnedPiece>? :D
