Jul-24-08 | | offtherook: <Xenon Oxide: From FICS:
<relay(*)(TD)(----): GMAlekseev has resigned the game. It will be saved in the history of both players so you can examine it later. This game will be closed in a few minutes>> That has to be a mistake. There is no way Alekseev (or anyone in their right mind) would ever resign from that position, even disregarding the fact that he was about to be handed a win on time. |

 | | chessgames.com: We're going to assume that the result 1-0 was a typographical or electronic error. We just corrected it to show 0-1. Thanks to everybody for stopping by today. Next game is tomorrow morning at 8:00am (USA/Eastern). Hope to see you then. |
Jul-24-08 | | eisenherz: What? Now Alekseev wins? When is it going to show a draw? |
Jul-24-08 | | jaybugg13: Ha ha <Xenon Oxide> for a moment I was excited for you! Cruel tricks eh? |

Jul-24-08 | | offtherook: <chessgames.com: We're going to assume that the result 1-0 was a typographical or electronic error. We just corrected it to show 1-0.>
I see another typographical error... |
Jul-24-08 | | eisenherz: The result was actually a draw |
Jul-24-08 | | eisenherz: 1-1 thats draw |
Jul-24-08 | | Jack Kerouac: I'ts just been corrected to a draw.... |
Jul-24-08 | | acirce: It's just the new amazing rule to discourage draws. Wins and losses are both awarded 1 point. Draws, -10. |
Jul-24-08 | | Waitaka: Thank you chessgames.com! |

 | | tamar: <acirce: It's just the new amazing rule to discourage draws. Wins and losses are both awarded 1 point. Draws, -10.> But if both wins and losses are both given 1 pt, cowardly players will agree to fixed games. Better my system, where losses are awarded 3 pts, wins 1pt and draws -10
It rewards wild play, which is what spectators want. |
Jul-24-08 | | offtherook: <Better my system, where losses are awarded 3 pts, wins 1pt and draws -10 It rewards wild play, which is what spectators want.> You know, it would be amusing to see a tournament played by those rules. You can't forcibly lose a game of chess if your opponent doesn't want to win. Would someone trailing badly in the rankings force a draw to sabotage the leader? The whole thing would be hilarious. |

Jul-24-08 | | Ulhumbrus: On 35..Bxg4 36 Kh1 ( 36 Bxg4 Nxg4+ 37 Kg1 Qe1 mate) 36...Bxf3 37 gxf3 Qxf3+ 38 Kg1 Ng4 39 Qb2 ( the threat was 39...Qf2+ 40 Kh1 Qh2 mate) 39...Qxe3+ picks up another pawn |

Jul-24-08 | | whiteshark: <jaybugg13: <Wow I think 25.Qc3 was a mistake.>> I agree. The counter-attack <25.Ra6> looks like white's best defence here. click for larger viewe.g. <25...Bb7 26.Rd6 Nf6 27.Nc3 Ba8 28.Rxf6 gxf6 29.Qd6> click for larger view= |
Jul-24-08 | | Marmot PFL: Another disappointment for the home town fans. |
Jul-24-08 | | whiteshark: Another line after <25.Ra6> is <25...Rc8 26.Qd6> when both queens browse a bit through the foreign camp, e.g. <26...Qxb1 27.Rxc6 Rxc6 28.Qxc6 Nf6 29.Qc8+ Kh7 30.bxc4 bxc4 31.e4 dxe4 32.Be2=>  click for larger view |

Jul-24-08 | | Ulhumbrus: 19..Qg6 attacks the point c2 guarded by the R on c1. The Rc1 is then overloaded. Because this R has to defend ita colleague on a1, it cannot also maintain its defence of the square c2. It can be drawn away by the exchange 21...Rxa1, so that upon the recapture 22 Rc1xa1 the black Queen gains access to the square c2. |
Jul-24-08 | | messachess: It appears that in this game, white's position is virtually hopeless after back's 29...Bd7. At least, I can't see any possible improvement for white after that. |
Jul-24-08 | | apple pi: guess the moves up and running - that was fast!
