It seemed to me gratuitous to call the standard of play in a junior event "weak." This was before I downloaded the aforementioned magazine <from https://old.newzealandchess.co.nz/m...> and read what it said about the Otago-Southland Schoolpupils Championship: "Both the standard of play and the prlze money were pathetic...."

I don't see anything wrong with concrete, constructive criticism, but the use of pejoratives such as "pathetic" seems uncalled for.
