May-31-17  Walter Glattke: The Bangles and the Boom Town Rats don't like Mondays, but we do this. I just remembered to 1963, we played School chess, and a pupil said to his opposite, he would not set him mete, before, he would take off all his chessmen, then finally mate. I saw, here we can play cruel chess after
24.Rd8.

An Englishman: Good Evening: Eh, Rooks--who needs 'am?
May-31-17  BxChess: 0 for 3 so far this week. I've got a bad feeling about tomorrows duel.
May-31-17  gofer: Okay, we have <"the hard way or the easy way - which do you want?">.

The easy way...

24 Rh8+ Bxh8
25 Rd8 Qxd8 (Kg7 Qxh8#)
26 Qh7+ Kf8
27 Qf7#

Dummy here, chose the hard way...

24 Rd8+ Bf8 (Qxd8 transposes)
25 Rh8+ Kg7
26 Qh6+ Kf6
27 Rdxf8+ Qxf8
28 Rxf8 Ke7
29 Qg7+ Kd6
30 Rf6+ Be6
31 Rxe6#

May-31-17  saturn2: Black has more material but both 24 Rd8 and 24 Rh8 save the point for white.
May-31-17  leRevenant: <diagonalley: wow! ... easy peasy for a wednesday :-)> Yes, easiest so far, this week.
May-31-17  et1: given the theme of the week this was easy, never 2 without 3... :)
May-31-17  cocker: 24 Rh8+ mates in 4, 24 Rd8+ mates in 7. I went for the slow one.
May-31-17  Moszkowski012273: If black had found 17...Bxg4 he MIGHT of held this game.
May-31-17  morfishine: Both 24.Rd8+ & 24.Rh8+ win

*****

May-31-17  nalinw: <BxChess> I found a marvelous forced mate after 24. Rd8+ Bf8 25. Rh8+ Kg7 but this box is too small to contain it.

Fermat's ghost? I love it!

May-31-17  Iwer Sonsch: 24.Rh8+ Bxh8 25.Rd8+ Qxd8 26.Qxh8+ Kxh8 27.Nf7+ and 28.Nxe8 is beautiful, but lacklustre.

However, 26.Qh7+ Kg8 27.Qf7# is still beautiful, but not quite as lacklustre as the aforementioned line.

24...Bxh8 is forced. 25...Kg8 or 25...Qf6 allow mate in 1 with respectively 26.Qh7# or 26.Qxh8#.

May-31-17  Iwer Sonsch: After 24.Rd8+ Bf8 25.Rh8+ Kg7

Stockfish indicates 2 unique ways to mate in 5, and one of them even splits into 3 more unique ways on move 28.

Can you find them all?

May-31-17  mel gibson: 24 Rd8+ wins - mate in 6

24 Rh8+ wins - mate in 4.

May-31-17  Pasker: Both Rd8+ and Rh8+ wins one mate in 4 other mate 6. So Rh8 is the best move here. Finding the shortest mate is not always an easy task to do. Its very important especially in blitz games.
May-31-17  paavoh: For some reason, 24. Rd8 felt the easier way although the path to mate was longer. Perhaps deflection of the BQ was the factor.
May-31-17  Marmot PFL: Sacrifice both rooks, move order doesn't matter except that Rh8+ is faster.
May-31-17  kevin86: Open the h-file and lure the queen away!
May-31-17  AlicesKnight: <Iwer Sonsh - After 24.Rd8+ Bf8 25.Rh8+ Kg7 Stockfish indicates 2 unique ways to mate in 5, and one of them even splits into 3 more unique ways on move 28. Can you find them all?> Possibly, but Stockfish can keep them; I have chocloate and profiteroles to eat and I find this more diverting.....
May-31-17  Walter Glattke: I remember to cruel chess for the
Stockfish/Iwer indication: if black does not resign, one can take all his other chessmen first before setting mate.
May-31-17  RandomVisitor: If black had played 17...Bxg4 things might have been different: 18.hxg6 hxg6 19.Bh6 Bxf3 20.Qe3 Bxd1 21.Qg5 and maybe black can survive the attack

May-31-17  whiteshark: But we also learned something important during this morning: We know again what really counts in life: genuine interest in chess!
May-31-17  The Kings Domain: Fun and easy, my choice was 24) Rd8.
May-31-17  The Kings Domain: Only to realize that doesn't lead to mate. Sheesh, missed this one.
Jun-01-17  Ninja702: I found Rd8 Bf8 Rh8 Kg7 Qh7 Kf6 Rdf8 Kg5 Qh4#
