Jan-21-06  art00: Sokolov is going to lose on time...
Jan-21-06  stefan1967: I'v heard Sokolov's father is bulgarian. Is it true?
Jan-21-06  Ulhumbrus: 17..d5!! seems a brilliant way of reducing White's advantage, and two liabilities of White's position begin to show themselves: White's KB and Nb5 are in fact placed badly, out of play somewhat on a4 and b5.
Jan-21-06  Andreiko BG: Stefan, yes, its true. Father Bulgarian, mother Bosnian, and competing for Holland...weird combination
Jan-21-06  sipahi: 20...fxe5 seems to be good
Jan-21-06  srs555: Topalov has a little worse position
Jan-21-06  THE pawn: Although the advantage has been reduced, Topalov has a lot more time and things are getting complicated, and they are far from the 40th move, so Sokolov might blunder somewhere.

Moondoll: 20...fxe5 21.hxg4 this could get bloody, but sokolov is still running dangerously low on time.
Jan-21-06  Woodpusher: 20...Nxe5?? He go craaaazy!
Jan-21-06  percyblakeney: Eh, Nxe5?
Jan-21-06  PaulLovric: i am going for sokolov now
Jan-21-06  THE pawn: oh crap, didn't see that coming!
Jan-21-06  olydream3: a sacrifice on topalov?? he must be very confident
Jan-21-06  LluviaSean: hey hey hey....sokolov has got just 15 mins left to play!! what's he waiting for? he has only 45 secs to make each move now if he wants his hour at the 40 move mark.
Jan-21-06  Eatman: Wow, isn't white keeping the piece after Kxf8 Qf1+ ? interesting
Jan-21-06  whatthefat: <Ulhumbrus>
Hardly. Topalov was clearly better if he hadn't played 19.e5? And simply 18.exd5 was winning as well.
Jan-21-06  olydream3: can someone use a chess problem to calculate the advantages? i dont know who is better at the moment
Jan-21-06  Eatman: Hmm, after Nf3, looks like white still holds the extra piece, I don't think Sokolov has enough compensation...
Jan-21-06  THE pawn: Maybe sokolov just wished to have a full control of the center, but right now equality as I see it has shattered.
Jan-21-06  olydream3: sry, i mean chess program

  Peligroso Patzer: 20. ... Nxe5 looks like a huge blunder. If now (after 21. fxe5 fxe5) 22. Rxf8+ Kxf8 then 23. Qf1+ defends b5 with tempo. Did Sokolov miss this?

  Mateo: Sokolov should resign now.
Jan-21-06  panzer6tiger: what do the comps say after the sac?
Jan-21-06  whatthefat: <olydream3>
According to Fritz, Sokolov could pretty much resign here without feeling too bad about it later. 20...Nxe5 was a little absurd.
