 | | An Englishman: Good Evening: The American humor magazine seems rather fond of "schmendrik," which allegedly Yiddish for "stupid person." The game itself features one of the strangest looking double checks ever. But what happens after 14...a6? |
Jul-13-12 | | Djoker: <shaikriyaz> Why 15>. ... Ke4? seems like a waste of tempo to me as white develops knight with a check...instead if black does 15> ... Kf4 he gets a valuable chance to bring a piece in play. |
Jul-13-12 | | Djoker: <An Englishman> with 14...a6 if you are thinking of 15>Rc6+ Ka7 then 16>Bb6# if you aren't thinking of Ka7, then I'll say that a6 is pretty pointless. |

 | | HeMateMe: Yiddish Germans, working in a Milwaukee brewery? Maybe. Plenty of Germans came to Milwaukee, much beer was brewed. Laverne and Shirley, two working glass beer girls. "Fat Slags" lite. Laverne DeFazio--if there was ever a better hollywood name for a "one-nighter" girl, I haven't seen it. |
Jul-13-12 | | this is a sign: <Djoker> 15..Kf4 16. Bg5+ and white checkmates on the next move. |
Jul-13-12 | | Djoker: <this is a sign> Right. My bad. I thought Ke4 would be available...but its not It will be mate by Nc3# |

 | | akatombo: 13...Kd6 14.Bxc7+ Ke7 15.Nc3 Kf6 16.Nd5+ Kf5 17.g4+ leads to mate. If 16...Kg5 17.f4+ also leads to mate. |
Jul-13-12 | | shaikriyaz: <Djoker> if. 15..Kf4 16.Bg5+
now king has two squares to move
if 16..Kg4 17.h3#
if 16..Ke4 17.Nc3/Nd2#
ends a move earlier than my line:-) |
Jul-13-12 | | aidfarh: What happens after 14...Ka6? After 15. Rxc8 Be7 I don't see how White can continue the offensive. |
Jul-13-12 | | Shams: <aidfarh> What about 14...Ka6 15.Nc3<?> |
Jul-13-12 | | Djoker: <shaikriyaz> You are right...I missed that...as <this is a sign> pointed out |
Jul-13-12 | | psmith: <shams> is right! 14...Ka6 15. Nc3 is winning in all variations, as can easily be verified using any program. Here are some sample lines from analysis with Fritz 5.32: 14... Jul-13-12 | | kevin86: An amusing finale, four pieces are behind black's king and only a knight in front. A queen sac in seven...Spraggett once did it in five! |
Jul-13-12 | | Nullifidian: <An Englishman: The game itself features one of the strangest looking double checks ever. But what happens after 14...a6?> A double-check and a mate in three that occurs as in the game — 15... ♔a7 would be mate in one with 16. ♗b6#. |

 | | eternaloptimist: <Phony> yeah I recognized the phrase "schlemiel, schlimazel" from <Laverne & Shirley> as well. I used to watch it during the late 70s & early 80s when I was a kid. That phrase is based off of a Yiddish-American hopscotch chant. It's a good pun & Schlemm wove a nice mating net. Needless to say black played very poorly & didn't analyze much at all or analyzed very poorly & as a result paid the price for it. |

Jul-14-12 | | psmith: <RandomVisitor>: the Rybka analysis shows that 12. Ne5+ is good for White. But why is it stronger? What is the better defense after the game continuation? |
Oct-09-20 | | par5vin: This is a very enjoyable game to watch as White runs Blacks Queen throughout the board. Very educational for those who like using the Bishop Opening. |
