Oct-19-05 | | lopium: Seems the ducth opening, not the English one... May Gods are prying for me. |

 | | chessgames.com: Without d4, it's not a Dutch. |
Oct-19-05 | | lopium: Thank you, I'm not usual with the English, and less with the Dutch. |
Sep-13-10 | | Sularus: Black is threatening 28. ... Bf1++. |
Sep-13-10 | | macphearsome: I really like the tactical shots by the rook, especially (and obviously) 25...Rxg3+
While 26.hxg3 leads directly to mate as played, 26.fxg3 is only slightly better, for example 26.fxg3 Nf3+
27.Kf2 Nxd4
28.exd5 Nxc2
and black is up a pawn and has 3 minor pieces for a rook, while threatening the rook on e1. |
Sep-13-10 | | Once: I have a fondness for the dutch, or in this case, the anglo-dutch. The tactical plans can be so devastatingly simple. Push f5, castle short to bring the rook to f8, sac the f pawn and then send the f8 rook out into the world to go and have some fun. And rarely can a dutch rook have had so much fun ...
If we are going to have a week of Larsen games then we are in for a treat. |
Sep-13-10 | | Morten: This must be Larsen week. Perhaps one game per decade? But to have only one from the 60'ies is too little. |

Sep-13-10 | | rapidcitychess: <Morten> He died on the 9th. |

Sep-13-10 | | drleper: Yes, it's Larsen tribute week: http://chessbase.com/newsdetail.asp... |

 | | Check It Out: What a savage Larsen is! He loves attacking so much he even does a little on the queenside with a5 and a4, as if to say, clearly I'm going to demolish your kingside with some sacrifices, but, wait what's this over here? Oh, you want some more? Made you look - SMASH. |
Sep-13-10 | | kevin86: The inescapable mate threat is pretty as it is brilliant! |
Sep-13-10 | | jussu: This is a nice catchy pun, but why was it wasted for this particular game which didn't really bend anything? |
Sep-13-10 | | CapablancaFan122: How about <26.fxg3>? It seems like white can stave off mate, however he will be down a bishop. |
Sep-13-10 | | fab4: White's 16.gf is horrific.
What to make of Larsen's 12..a5 and 13.. Bd8 ?! ... Looking to neutralise white's potential along the c file at c7 I think .. asking white for the c5 square, permission not given, so Bd8 lol.. I'm sure the queenside would be ignored in that position now though ? Wonderful finish ! |

After 12 Qb3 the threat is Nf3xe5 followed by d5-d6+ when black takes on e5 with the d6 pawn. There are several ways of meeting this: Most of us would play 12... Kh8. Larsen finds a better idea: Ater 12...a5 13 Nxe5 a4 14 Qc4 Nb6 , White loses a piece. 13 a3 renews the threat. Now Larsen plays Bd8 again defending with an useful move and increasing the tension in the position: Now White will have to watch for tricks on both sides of the board. The consequence is seen in 16 ...a4 where Black locks the Qside with gain of time. |
