Kibitzer's Corner
Jan-05-08  Kaspy2: after move 12 you see a backward pawn theme. d6 will be exchanged properly, so after 18. we see Only after move 24 white is going down.
Petrosian appearantly suggested an alternative black win after move 25.

offramp: <Tabanus> thank you for that photograph. Even though the game has not yet begun the players show that typical chessplayer angst that is so dramatic.

It is a superb game.

The opening is fairly normal and play is also normal until Ribli plays the move he has been angling for:

16.b4. Where does the black knight go? There is a hidden attack on the d6 pawn by the Qd1 and Bf4.

Planinc realises he can get away with 16...Ne6, owing to the eventual attack on the c-pawn.

18...Bxc4

Ribli plays 19.e5 and play revolves for a while on whether that pawn is strong or weak. We've all been there.

By some mysterious power the position starts to look a bit weird, eg after 24...e4.

A very very hard position. Best seems to be 25.Nxe4. But Ribli played 25.Bxd7? This led to the loss of a piece.

It's surprising how a standard position became so randomized so quickly!

Apr-12-18  morfishine: Its hard enough facing Planinc, you can't give this guy a piece!
