Benzol: Hope John Donaldson's book on him gets Zemgalis more notice than he had previously. His 1st= placing with Bogolyubov at Oldenburg in 1949 shows his talent.Rossolimo,Unzicker,O'Kelly and Saemisch all finished below him.
Sep-04-06  Mibelz: <Benzol> In 1946, Zemgalis took 2nd, behind Unzicker, in Augsburg. In 1946, he took 2nd, behind Bohatirchuk, in Regensburg (Klaus Junge Memorial). In 1947, he took 2nd, behind Endzelins in Hanau (Matisons Memorial). Zemgalis won twice (1948, 1949) the Württemberg Championship. In 1949, he tied for 1st with Bogoljubow in Oldenburg. In 1949, he tied for 1st with Dreibergs in Esslingen.
