Dec-09-03  Whitehat1963: This is so obvious that I had long ago analyzed this trap and have never had the pleasure of unleashing it. I'm very surprised to find it here, even if white is "Undefined."

Sneaky: Is "Undefined" a relative of "NN" ?

Eggman: Black has drawn a game against Shabalov? Something's not right, here.
Dec-09-03  technical draw: Maybe it was undefined (cousin of NN) who was playing black. By the way I have played the white side of this game dozens of times.
Dec-09-03  MoonlitKnight: The names must be reversed. Erik Fossan is a local IM and the highest rated player in the town where I live (2389 FIDE).
Dec-09-03  MoonlitKnight: By the way, it's not a necessity to tribute the game to someone. An endless number of beginners must have stumbled into this blunder up through the years, and you don't need to be an IM to punish the ignorant.
Dec-09-03  Bears092: Who knows?

It could have been a blitz game where he was playing an opening he was unfamiliar with

Dec-09-03  MoonlitKnight: An IM should see this trap playing 1-minute games drunk and blindfold. That's my opinion anyway. :)

Sneaky: Poor NN... the few times he actually wins a game everybody tries to take it away from him =)

Eggman: This trap is one of the first examples illustrating discover check that a novice would be shown. How can anyone not be familiar with it?
Mar-29-04  Benjamin Lau: I did the same too.

I guess this is one of the examples of an instructive game in the database?

Mar-29-04  suenteus po 147: I like these kinds of opening traps and super blunders in the database. They teach me how fragile and frail my position is in textbook openings and that I must always be on guard against dropped pieces, skewers, forks, mates, etc. I used to have a collection called nasty openings, complied largely of traps I fell into playing online for a couple of years. If you're not that great (no tournament play) and your rating online is about 1200-1300, try playing a guy rated 1800+. My average survival time is 15 moves...IF I don't fall into a trap like this game. And I have fallen into many. Many.
Apr-30-04  GannonKnight: I've actually won this way twice in blitz play in the last two months! One time, my opponent played 4. ... d4 and I played 5 d3 before 5 ... Nf6 and the subsequent killer discovered check. There are many little traps like this in the opening and it's fun when your opponent walks into one! :)
Jul-29-04  chess4games: Cool way to beat people.
Sep-22-04  Knight13: I've beat people using this way before. It's really good way, yet...
Oct-26-04  Apocalypse79: 3...Nxe4 is very bad. Is black an IM definitely? He must learn from beginning of the opening and give away master title ...That's a shame lol
Oct-26-04  Marco65: 4...♘f6?? is the real blunder. Black still survives after 4...♕e7 5.♕xe4 d6 6.d4, this "only" loses a central pawn in the opening! But in my experience beginners who play 3...♘xe4? never find the clever 4...♕e7
Nov-11-04  von schlepstein: For Event and Site it just says "Right" as if this was from an event? Yeah, right.
Nov-20-04  quXa: Marco65, i found this trap on my own a few years ago, with Qe7. Only with good play, white can come in great development advantages (blocked bishop, danger of pinning the queen after white has castled which it can pretty quickly. Qe7 ain't a nice opening move, except when you're playing real bad players or yo uare blitzing :)

alexmagnus: "rating online about 1200 average survival time against 1800 15 moves".....My rating online is also 1200 but i hold 20-30 moves against 2500-2700s without a piece lost....
May-02-05  n30: it's a good trap but a crap move
Aug-05-05  THE pawn: A useful little trick that worked of half of my friends. That stopped them from copying me. hehe
Nov-17-05  DeepBlade: This is the shortest trap I've ever seen in my life!
Nov-22-05  Chopin: When I was first learning how to play chess, I feel for this trap. Brings back horrible memories!
Apr-17-06  Rajiv Herman Kramer: The horrible Russian Trap.
