SwitchingQuylthulg: Nice double-fork pattern here. Compare with NN vs Leonhardt, 1903

FSR: 8...b6 was silly: Black should have played the immediate 8...Bc5!

Phony Benoni: As in the Leonhardt game, cited above. There's even an extra variation: 9.Qc3 Bb4!
Aug-22-21  areknames: Oh come on, all this (including the pun) is just extremely silly.

OhioChessFan: IMHO, low quality game or not, the pun is fine and makes this worth a GOTD.

An Englishman: Good Evening: Aside from a very good pun, the game itself contains so many Knight forks, which makes it a great instructional tool for beginning players.
Aug-22-21  nalinw: Compared to what has come up recently - here is a gem that has languished for four years on the list ......

Teyss: Great pun checking all boxes: fits the game (short + feels like Black stole his victory by benefiting from White's mistakes), refers to both players' names, funny.

Instructive game on openings with variations and N forks as noted by <FSR>, <PB> and <An Englishman>.

Hence so far the score for the pun is 4-1. Pending Messiah's and Morph's pun-bashings (which we haven't seen for a while though).

And the score for the game is 3-2. The competition still goes on.

Aug-22-21  siggemannen: Wow, a pun so good it makes up for the last couple of years of mediocracy

eternaloptimist: I can tell that <FSR> loves miniatures. As for me, I like long-term strategical games! Playing over Anatoly Karpov’s & Tigran Petrosian’s games r enjoyable for me. I used to have a copy of Chernev’s “The 1000 Best Short Games of Chess” a really long time ago & enjoyed playing over those games when I was a miniature fan. Although there r different strokes for different folks so I won’t knock somebody for what kind of games that they like. Miniature games can b useful for improving in the opening & can help ppl tactically as well so they definitely hv value. I do enjoy some miniature games & this is definitely 1 of my favorites.: Ed. Lasker vs G A Thomas, 1912 It’s a brilliant game on Edward Lasker’s part & I must say that his book “

I c that <Switchy Q> made the 1st kibitz for this game. It’s a shame that some of the stupid trolls on this site were the 1s who made him decide that New Year’s Eve of ‘18 would b the last day that he would ever make a kibitz on CG. He got tired of their abusive kibitzes aimed at ppl on CG. IMHO he’s the best ChessBookie player of all time & he’s an interesting & nice guy as well.

<Teyss> Indeed it has been a pretty long time since <morf> has posted some “pun-bashings”. In fact I checked his profile & I c that he hasn’t made a kibitz since 2/22/21 & he hasn’t been “seen” on CG since 3/1/21. Maybe he got disillusioned w/ some ppl on CG just like <Switchy Q> did ?????

eternaloptimist: Now I c that I didn’t include all of my comment about Lasker’s book “modern chess strategy”. I was going to say that it’s a good book & that it’s good for intermediate players
