Kibitzer's Corner
Jan-19-04  InspiredByMorphy: Blacks makes a sacrifice without an immediate payoff, but rather a slow positional one. His threat of mate is too strong in the end for white to do anything useful.
Jan-20-04  ughaibu: I posted this one because of the coincidence of the name but coincidentally (again) it turned out to be a great fighting game with things getting well out of hand for both sides.
Dec-03-04  popski: Excellent game! Like old school chess fight!
Apr-07-07  Whitehat1963: A fun game to play through. Aggressive on both sides.

al wazir: White's light-square ♗ was totally useless. White was essentially playing a piece down from move 10 on.

HeMateMe: Great pun! And, if you listen carefully, you can almost hear Rupert Holmes...

OhioChessFan: Groaner of a pun, in a good way.
Nov-02-23  goodevans: Terrific game. Shame there could only be one winner.

Here's the position after 17...Nf5:

White commits to giving up the exchange and a pawn and denuding his K with 18.Qf3 Nh4 19.Qf6. I doubt I would have been that brave but I guess he'd planned that all along as without that Black is looking better. A few moves later, after Black had had his little foray, the board looks like this:

If I had been brave enough to get here then I'm sure I'd have carried on exactly as White did, but after 25...O-O-O and 26...Rde8 White's attack was clearly over and he was fighting to stay alive. What went wrong?

20-20 hindsight is a wonderful thing and with the benefit of that it seems White just had to stop Black castling with <23.Qe5+!>. 23...Kd8 is forced (else 24.Nf6+) and without Black being able to bring his QR into the game the White attack stands a much better chance of success.

Nov-02-23  Carrubo: A great game, lot of tricks.

FSR: A thrilling win by Bruci Lopez (who won this tournament by four points, scoring 12-1) against his family's opening.
