Jan-02-14  Howard: Mystery solved regarding the "final" position !

Black's last move was actually 88.Be5+ ! That explains why Spassky took a draw in a "won position".

The websites www.chesstempo.com and also www.chess365.com seem to confirm that 88....Be5+ was the actual move.

offramp: There are no bishops around. Do you mean Re5+?
Jan-02-14  shalgo: The final position (in the game as currently given) is a tablebase draw.

Suetin vs Spassky, 1964
Apr-08-16  Howard: Oops ! Offramp is right ! Stupid me !!
Apr-08-16  ewan14: Good game
Jul-15-21  edubueno: The current game is enough interesting. Both players trying to won, Spassky took some advantage because of Suetin's risky Da5 without the previous d6. On the mouvement 31 there is no way to 31 f4 because of 31...Ktf7!. However, the adjourned position seems to be favourable to Boris, having a doubled pawn plus.

FSR: Somewhere I read a claim that Spassky never played the "half-move" 1.Nf3. Not true. Repertoire Explorer: Boris Spassky (white).
Dec-24-22  stone free or die: <FSR> now you're "half-obligated" to dig out the reference!

perfidious: <FSR>, on seeing your post, it occurred to me that I had hardly seen any examples of 1.Nf3 in Spassky's praxis, whereas his contemporary Tal was often known to use that first move to avoid such lines as the Gruenfeld and Nimzo-Indian.
Aug-15-24  ewan14: Boris even played the English , at least once !
