Feb-12-08  who: 31...Qxh2+! 32.Kb3 (32.Kc1/Kd1 Qd2#) c2+ 33.Kb2 Qh8+! (...cxb1=Q+ also works) and black wins (Fritz).

Wow! It is truly hard to imagine a king in a worse situation than this:

<The last move clarifies Black’s idea. He controls the center and all his pieces are cooperating excellently. The plan 18...♕h8!, 19…♖g6 and 21...♖d5! could only be found and implemented by an immensely talented player! Before the match Gelfand, who had already played against Short for many times, told me that his play is not clean of errors at all, but sometimes he can take ingenious decisions at the board. This capability of his is fully shown in this game>
