Kibitzer's Corner
Aug-07-04  lordhazol: No one has interested long and bothered middlegames. There is no notices for this game.Hard to understand minority attacks.
Aug-07-04  lordhazol: 15 a3 is not good move it causes b3 and leaving a pawn.Sacrifice a knight for pawns interesting but right answers has given by Polgar .It shows good defences wins as brillant attacks.
Aug-08-04  hollowone: Nigel's sacrifice probably stops Polgar from queening a pawn in the long term, but his own hopes of getting that passed a pawn across are fairly futile. As soon as he's forced to trade in the rooks for minor pieces, he's impeding his ability to push the pawn forward.
Sep-12-04  WMD: It seems likely that that one or both of the players would have known the earlier game Nunn vs M Sher, 1994. Nunn annotated his game for the BCM and criticised the move 6...e6 as a 'major inaccuracy'. He praised 11.0-0! and identified 11...f6 as the losing move, and suggested the line 11...exd5 12.cxd5 0-0-0 13.Nc3 Nxd5! as the best defence for Black. As we can see, Polgar preferred 13...Nf6 and Short soon squandered the initiative, then a pawn and ultimately the game. One gets the impression that Polgar was well-prepared here.

<Just before this game, Nigel was a bit apprehensive about playing Judit twice in a week, commenting that his recent score against her was a miserable 0.5/7>

GM Nigel Short was quoted after the game..

"Christ, a half out of eight!"

Oh, wow, I didn't know the score between them was so lopsided. I just searched for them in this database and found 8-3 and 5 draws in classical games. If you add rapid/exhibition games, it's 4 more wins for Polgar.
