Kibitzer's Corner
Sep-08-07  wolfmaster: If it still had been White's move after 29.Kxf1, he could have played Rxc8+!, snaring a piece.
Sep-19-09  King.Arthur.Brazil: See that after 33.b3 Black is paralized, like a zugswang. if 33...Kg8 (sparing). 34.Be4 Kf8 35.Bg6... So a4 is forced. And the lose of this P is the lost of game. Great final technique from Smyslov!

Fusilli: <King.Arthur.Brazil> True. First I wondered why Smyslov didn't win a pawn, with a winning endgame, at move 32 with Ra8, Rc6 33.Bxe6 Rxe6 34.Rxc8+ Kf7 35.Rc5 (stronger than 32.Rxa5 Rc6 where black can hope for Rc2+). But I think it's that what he played was stronger.
Apr-08-17  ChessHigherCat: Does anybody know why Smyslov didn't want to win the pawn with 28. Rxc8 Rxc8 (either rook) 29. Bxe6+ King moves 30. Bxc8? I'm not sure why he didn't take 32. Rxa5, either but I think the threat might be 32...Rc6, threatening to penetrate the 7th rank and mop up the pawns, which is prevented by Bg2.

Fusilli: <ChessHigherCat> It's just that what he played is more forceful. He basically tied black up. See the previous two comments.
