<At this state Marshall offered a draw, which Jaffe promptly accepted. Black's last move was not so good as 17...Kh8, for White by playing 18.Rac1, would assuredly would have made matters fairy uncomfortable for the opponent. After the exchange of pawns, the rook would control the open file to good purpose. If, however, Black were to back up with 18...b6, when 19.f4 would gld give him plenty to think about>." == "New York Evening Post", March 10, 1917.

The game was played in is the final round of New York's Metropolitan League the match pitting the Manhattan Chess Club (Marshall) and the Rice-Progressive Chess Club (Jaffe). Rice-Progressive won the match, and thereby the league championship, by a score of 4.5-35.
