Aug-26-04  Shah Mat: 22 Rxh4! a wonderful sac that breaks the game wide open
Aug-06-05  turkishgrandmaster: Can anybody tell me why Short resigned here? He could have simply played Rxc2
Aug-06-05  DWINS: <turkishgrandmaster>, if 37.Rxc2, then Black wins with 37...Nd4+
Oct-15-07  TheGadge: Short's downfall was 34. Kf3, allowing the potential fork Nd4+. However, can Korchnoi win after 34 Kf2?

HeMateMe: Short and Korchnoi were tied in classical chess with 8 wins each, and 21 draws.

here, the sharp 22...Rxh4 looks to be the start of a 14 move combination in the endgame that produces an unstoppable passed pawn.

Viktor the Terrible.

34.Kf2 was definitely better move but black is still ahead after 34.Kf2 Rc2+ 35.Ke1 Rb2 36.Rgg3 (of course, white has no time for 36.Rxa7, as after 36...Ke4 37.Rg3 Rb1+ 38.Kf2 Nc5 black d-Pawn becomes decisive factor) 36...Na1 37.Rd2 Rb1+ 38.Rd1 Nc2+ 39.Kd2 Rxd1+ 40.Kxd1 Ne3+ 41.Ke1 Kxf4 and black has huge advantage.

Feb-05-16  fispok: Maybe after 25...Nxd4 White could have gone with Be3 as a defense of the c pawn. The Bishops can still be exchanged b5, but that is a less solid square for the knight.
