perfidious: An unusual opening choice for Larsen, and an interesting piece sacrifice by White.

Wade and Blackstock note that 31....Nd6 is an error, leading to a clearly inferior position. As an alternative, they suggest 31....Nc5!?, ststing that it gives only a small advantage to White.

Sep-14-12  marljivi: Well,after 31...Nc5 the move 32.Rb2 looks like the correct answer to me.(32.dc5?d4 33.Qg4Bh1 34.Nh1Re1 ;32.Be5?Re5 33.de5Qe5 34.Re1(?)Qc3 with clear edge to black.)Then 32...Ne4 (32...Na3?? 33.dc5 ) 33.Be4de4 34.Qe3Nc3 (34...Na3 35.Be5 and white is clearly better,but not 35.Ra1?Nb5 36.Rab1a3! 37.Rb5a2 38.Rb7Rb7! 39.Rb7...(39.Ra1Rb2 ) 39...Qa4 40.Rb8Kh7 41.Qe2a1Q 42.Qg4!Qc2 43.Ne2e3! 44.Kg2Qf5 .) 35.Qc3e3 36.Kg1!...(36.Be3??Bh1 37.Nh1Rf5 38.Ke2Qh5 ) 36...e2 (36...Bh1?? 37.Rb8 ) 37.Qe1...(37.Ne2??Re2 38.Rb7Re1 39.Kg2Qe2 ) 37...c3! (After 37...Qc6?! 38.Rh2Qf3 39.Rf2Qa3 40.Rbe2...(40.Rfe2??Qb2 )40...Re2 41.Re2 black doesn't seem to have enough compensation for the piece.) 38.Rc2...(38.Re2?Re2 39.Qe2Qe2 40.Ne2Bh1 41.Kh1Rf5 42.Kg2c2 43.Bc1Rh5 and black has the edge in the endgame,for example 44.Nc3(?!)Rh4! 45.d5Rc4,etc.) 38...Bh1 39.Kh1Qc6 40.Kg1Qf3 41.Be5Rc6 (41...Rb6? 42.Rc3 ) 42.Qe2Qg3 43.Bg3Re2 44.Re2c2 45.Bf4c1Q 46.Bc1Rc1 47.Kg2Rd1 48.Re8Kf7 49.Rd8Rd3!?=;49...Kf6!?=.
Sep-14-12  marljivi: But it is true that towards the end of my previous comment white has 40.Kh2(instead of 40.Kg1),obviously with advantage.(40...Qf3 41.Be5Rc6 42.Qe2 and now the knight on g3 is "protected" by the white king.)
