Kibitzer's Corner
Aug-18-04  AdrianP: Black plays extremely badly starting with 11...Nd5 and allowing this important piece to be kicked around until it ends up on a6 - he should have admitted his error by simply returning with 12...Nf6.

Black then thinks he can solve the problem that his King has to protect the doubly-attacked bishop by exploiting White's bank rank weakness - but fails to notice that there is no back-rank mate.

Apr-03-08  poctuk xboctuk: I think Horwitz probably had a bad hangover or didn't sleep because his wife was yelling at him all night. I don't know how else you can explain that ridiculous failed back rank mate attempt.

MissScarlett: Staunton in the <ILN> waxes suitably pompous.

<15...O-O>: <A deplorable oversight for a player who, a few years since, deservedly ranked as one of the most accomplished masters in Europe!>

<16...Rae8>: <Mr Horwitz omits to see what would be palpable to a mere novice in the game, that the giving up of his Queen is certain ruin, because White's Kt can interpose when the Rook checks!>
