Honza Cervenka: Quite interesting game. White was clearly up for a long time and for example after 23.Bxg6 fxg6 24.Qe5 (see diagram) the game would be immediately over.

Finally after missing of several other chances to increase or petrify his advantage Ivkov by last move before time control (40.Qf2?) allowed Polugaevsky to slip completely and draw the game. For example, 40.Qb6 would have preserved white's chances to win the game.

Sep-12-06  euripides: <Honza> <Quite interesting game> indeed !

<the game would be immediately over.> very nice ! Black could try <23 Bxg6 fxg6 24 Qe5> Bb8 aiming for a repetition, but White has 25 Ne8+ Bxe5 26 Rxf8 mate.

  Honza Cervenka: What about 13...h5?
Sep-12-06  RookFile: Well, this ...h5 idea has been tried in this line, although more typically a move or two earlier. I think the results of those games are, white winning.

Honza Cervenka: <Well, this ...h5 idea has been tried in this line, although more typically a move or two earlier. I think the results of those games are, white winning.> But the difference here is that white played f4 and so Bg5 is not just a possible reaction.
