Dec-04-03  InspiredByMorphy: What a game! Can Black play 29. Re3?
Dec-04-03  xu fei: 29...Re3 30.c8=Q
Dec-04-03  Reisswolf: I don't think so, since 30. c8=Q requires immediate attention because of the threat of 31. Qxf8#. After 30...Rxc8 31. Qxc8 Black is lost. And if 30...Qxc8 then 31. Qxc8 wins the queen.
Dec-06-03  technical draw: Fischer must have seen the perpetual at move 21..Ng3, so I'm sure we'll have a hard time trying to find a win for him.
Jun-21-05  InspiredByMorphy: Doesen't 27. ...Re3 give black better chances?
Jun-22-05  sibilare: sibilare: < 27. ...Re3 give black better chances? > 28 c8=♕ ♗xc8 29 ♕xc8 ♖xf3+ 30 ♗xf3 ♕xf3+ 31 ♔g1 ♕g3+ 32 ♔f1 ♕d3+ 33 ♔g1 ♕g3+

etc etc

Feb-27-06  Fast Gun: This was the last competitive game that these two played against each other, it was played in round 18 on June 5th 1962,(forget those two blitz games in Herceg Novi 1970): There should have been one more game in round 25, but it was cancelled because Tal was ill and had to go to hospital and could not play: It is curious how these two great players never met again over the board, Fischer continued to play in tournaments up to 1970 before going on to the candidates series, while Tal was very active right up his death in 1992: As for this game, well it obvious that White cannot play 29. Kg1?? because of Re2 winning!! The move 21.Ng3!? is an interesting plan to force the white king onto the f-file and then follow up with f5 to open up lines against the exposed king:
Jan-31-08  EdwardChisam: What I find impressive is the memories of both players. Looking at it from Tal's point of view, for example, the Ruy Lopez Classical variation is not something you see often. Tal must have been aware of this game:

Alekhine vs Bogoljubov, 1913

By virtue of having strong opening knowledge, both players were able to get to a sharp, even position later, and have some fun.

Sep-18-08  ughaibu: There's no reason that Tal must've known the earlier game, unless you're suggesting that an infinite regress of earlier games is necessary and possible. Particularly as Alekhine lost his game.
Sep-18-08  seeminor: Ughaibu, do us all a favour and go and sit in a room by yourself, with no access to a computer.
Sep-18-08  ughaibu: No.
.
Sep-18-08  Zonszein: I personally find quite ridiculous to think that Tal could be aware of a game played in 1913. First because he simply did not need to..
But mainly because it is not because someone "googles" a game and "finds out" it's similar to the one here that: "eureka!, Tal knew about it"

Tal (specially) had better things to do: find the best moves over the board for e.g.

Sep-18-08  seeminor: "Tal (specially) had better things to do: find the best moves over the board for e.g."

Really? What evidence is there for that, did he tell you?

Sep-18-08  Towershield: I find 22.Qxc7 to be pretty interesting:

22...Ne2+ (22...Qh6 23.g5 ) 23.Kg2(Kf1? Qf6!) Nf4+ 24.Kf1 Qxc7 25.Rxc7 Rfc8 26.Rxc8+ Rxc8 27.Kg1-- I think white has good chances here.

Sep-18-08  AnalyzeThis: Grandmasters really do study the opening.
Sep-18-08  Zonszein: <did he tell you?>

No

Sep-19-08  seeminor: 'Zonszein: No'

Then don't put your speculation on a higher level.

Aug-11-09  WhiteRook48: the greatest matchup ever known to chess
Aug-11-09  SugarDom: Although, Fischer did not win, his talent was more evident as he was black, sacrificing and attacking...
Aug-11-09  vonKrolock: <25.d6+> Or 25.♘e5 f3! 26.♖c2 ♗xh3+ etc with at least a draw

<Fast Gun>,
Fischer and Tal couldn't resist having a game in hospital!

Given Tal's phenomenal memory, this would hardly have been as far-fetched as you believe.

Better still, take a walk into the Gobi Desert or some such lovely place.

Aug-04-14  Zonszein: Very perfidious
